How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Registered Manager – Children's Short Breaks / Respite Service

    Shrewsbury | £50,000 - £55,000

    Are you an experienced Children's Home Manager or Deputy Manager looking for a role that's a little different from the traditional children's home model?

    We're recruiting for an Ofsted Registered Manager to lead a specialist children's short-break service in Shrewsbury, providing respite stays for children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and physical disabilities.

    This isn't a traditional children's home. The service provides short breaks of around 2-3 nights, giving children and young people the opportunity to enjoy a fun, exciting and positive stay away from home, with activities and experiences planned around their individual needs, interests and wishes.

    Working for a charity with a brilliant reputation for the difference they make in people's lives, this is really rewarding opportunity for an experienced children's home manager who's looking for something exciting and different.

    What’s on Offer:

    * £50,000 - £55,000 salary, depending on experience

    * Generous 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

    * Pension scheme

    * Occupational sick pay

    * Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support

    * Gift voucher and rewards/recognition scheme

    * Flexible working arrangements

    The Registered Manager Role

    As the Ofsted Registered Manager, you'll have overall responsibility for the leadership and operational management of the home, ensuring that children receive high-quality, child-centred care and that the service continues to meet all regulatory and safeguarding requirements.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Leading and supporting an experienced staff team to deliver high-quality, individualised care.

    * Ensuring admissions and short-break stays are effectively planned around each child's needs, wishes and interests.

    * Working closely with families, social workers, schools, healthcare professionals and other partner agencies.

    * Acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring safeguarding concerns are identified and responded to promptly and appropriately.

    * Overseeing referrals and assessments and ensuring appropriate planning is in place before children attend the service.

    * Supporting the recruitment and selection of suitably skilled staff, ensuring safer recruitment practices are followed.

    * Building strong and positive relationships with children, families and the wider community.

    * Completing daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly audits in line with the service's audit schedule.

    * Ensuring the home operates in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Ofsted requirements and relevant safeguarding legislation.

    What we're looking for

    It's essential that you have:

    * At least 2 years' management experience within the last 5 years, working as a Deputy Manager or Registered Manager within a children's home or children's service.

    * A good understanding of Ofsted requirements and the Children's Homes Regulations 2015.

    * Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation and procedures.

    * A genuine passion for delivering child-centred care and improving outcomes for children and young people.

    Experience with disabilities isn't essential - If you're currently working with children and young people with EBD and are interested in moving into a specialist LD/autism service, this could be an excellent opportunity. The organisation can support you to develop your knowledge and experience of working with children with learning disabilities and physical needs.

    You'll also need to be able to work flexibly around the needs of the service. Children attend from Wednesday through to Monday, and management cover is shared between the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and two Team Leaders. As a result, you'll be expected to work at least 1 weekend in 4 as part of the management rota.

    Interested?

    If you're an experienced Registered Manager, Deputy Manager or Children's Home Manager looking for a role where you can combine strong leadership and regulatory knowledge with genuinely child-centred care, we'd love to hear from you.
