How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

A contract opportunity is available for a Mechanical Design Engineer within the aviation engineering sector, focusing on the design and development of aero engine testing facilities. The role involves providing conceptual schemes and working designs for installed and uninstalled engine testing facilities, including aircraft hush houses, test cells, and acoustic chambers. Designs must comply with company, industry, and national standards using computer-aided design tools.

Responsibilities include generating detailed 2D and 3D assemblies, bills of materials, and managing drawing libraries. The engineer will oversee the entire lifecycle of the design process, from planning and testing to implementation, and produce shop drawings, installation and assembly instructions, and diagrams. Additional duties involve sourcing cost-effective components and materials, inspecting manufactured items for compliance, and contributing to technical specifications and scopes of work. The role also supports proposals and sales departments with renderings and assists in developing operations and maintenance manuals. Candidates should be highly proficient in Autodesk Inventor and the Autodesk Product Design and Manufacturing suite, with experience in Solidworks considered beneficial. A sound knowledge of GD&T and producing drawings to BS 8888 is required, along with familiarity with ISO9001:2015 QA controls.

Experience in structural design, mechanical systems (fuel, compressed air, water cooling, hydraulics), and relevant standards (such as CE Conformity and ATEX directive) is essential. Strong computer literacy, particularly with MS Office, is expected. The role may require occasional UK and overseas travel and site work. Knowledge of CFD and a full UK driving license are advantageous. Applicants must be eligible for UK security clearance.

This role is On-Site and requires occasional international travel to Europe, Asia, and/or USA.

Candidates must be eligible to undergo BPSS screening, with the ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC) where required.
