How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Teacher of Science - September 2026

    Manchester, Tameside, Oldham and Bury
    £150 - £230 per day, depending on experience and qualifications

    Premier Education is working with secondary school trusts across Manchester, Tameside, Oldham and Bury to recruit Science Teachers for potential long-term cover roles.

    Opportunities may include sickness cover, maternity cover, vacant-post cover and ongoing assignments. We will take the time to understand your preferred locations, availability, Science specialism and career goals before matching you with suitable schools.

    Applications are welcomed from Biology, Chemistry and Physics specialists, including Early Career Teachers looking to develop their confidence and experienced Science Teachers seeking a rewarding new position.

    Teacher of Science - the role

    Depending on the placement, your responsibilities may include:

    Teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics across KS3 and KS4

    Teaching your specialist Science subject at KS5 where required

    Planning and delivering engaging theoretical and practical lessons

    Teaching GCSE Combined Science and, where applicable, Separate Sciences

    Following established schemes of work and exam-board specifications

    Delivering required practical activities safely and effectively

    Developing pupils' scientific knowledge, enquiry and analytical skills

    Identifying misconceptions and adapting teaching to improve understanding

    Assessing pupils' work, monitoring progress and addressing gaps in knowledge

    Preparing students for GCSE and, where applicable, A-level examinations

    Creating a safe, positive and purposeful learning environment

    Working effectively with Science technicians, departmental colleagues and school leaders

    Contributing to the wider work of the Science department

    Teacher of Science - requirements

    UK Qualified Teacher Status

    A degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or a closely related Science subject

    Recent experience teaching Science in a UK secondary school, including teaching placements

    Secure knowledge of the KS3 and KS4 Science curriculum

    Confidence teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics at KS3 and GCSE level

    Strong subject knowledge within at least one Science specialism

    Knowledge of GCSE Combined Science and Separate Science specifications

    An understanding of GCSE assessment objectives, exam techniques and current exam-board requirements

    The ability to plan and supervise practical Science activities safely

    An understanding of laboratory safety procedures and risk assessments

    The ability to explain scientific concepts clearly and address common misconceptions

    Experience using assessment data to identify gaps and plan appropriate support

    The ability to teach Biology, Chemistry or Physics at A-level would be advantageous for some placements but is not essential

    Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

    A reliable, adaptable and professional approach

    The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues

    The legal right to work in the UK - we are unable to offer visa sponsorship

    An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one
