How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    BCOP

BCOP is a charity with a proud history dating back to 1946. Today, its 270 colleagues support older people across Birmingham through its nursing homes, supported housing and independent living schemes.

The organisation is proud to create places where people feel safe, respected and cared for. They treat every person as an individual and believe that the little things matter. Over time, their relationships with residents, families and colleagues create a genuine sense of community, warmth and homeliness.

BCOP’s three nursing homes – Anita Stone Court, Neville Williams House and Robert Harvey House – have all achieved a ‘GOOD’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

    The opportunity

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for BCOP, ensuring that their vision, mission and strategy are delivered effectively.

This is a pivotal leadership role. You will lead the organisation through change and development, maximise their impact for older people across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, maintain financial and organisational sustainability, and build a culture where people feel valued, supported and motivated to give their best.

As the CEO, you will be both an inspiring internal leader and a confident external ambassador for BCOP. You will build strong relationships with residents, families, staff, Trustees, commissioners, regulators, strategic partners and the wider community.

You will lead a senior executive team and have responsibility for all employees across the charity, excluding Trustees.

    Role

Provide clear, effective and inspirational leadership, ensuring BCOP’s vision and strategic direction are understood and embedded throughout the organisation.
Lead the development and delivery of BCOP’s strategic and operational plans.
Ensure excellence in the quality, safety and effectiveness of the services they provide.
Shape and strengthen an organisational culture where people are committed to BCOP’s aims, motivated to succeed and focused on their long-term future.
Lead and manage organisational change effectively, ensuring that staff are engaged and supported throughout periods of development and transformation.
Mentor and develop colleagues, particularly those in senior leadership positions, helping them to fulfil their potential.
Ensure robust financial management, working closely with the Head of Finance to develop realistic budgets, effective controls and clear financial reporting for the Board.
Ensure BCOP operates within agreed budgets and makes the best possible use of its resources.
Ensure the charity complies with governance policies, procedures and statutory requirements established by the Board.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including commissioners, regulators, statutory bodies, voluntary sector partners and other strategic organisations.
Provide the Board of Trustees with timely information, objective advice and appropriate support to enable it to fulfil its responsibilities.
Act as the public face and ambassador of BCOP, representing the charity with credibility, warmth and professionalism.
Carry out other duties relevant to the role as determined by the Board.
    Requirements

A proven track record of successful change management.

Experience of preparing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating business or development plans at a senior level.
Experience working within a regulated sector, such as registered care or social housing.
A basic understanding of the reporting and filing requirements of the Charity Commission, Companies House and the Regulator of Social Housing.
Strong financial and resource management skills, including the ability to develop and manage budgets.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and engage a broad range of people.
    Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
The ability to build effective teams and develop people to achieve their potential.
Confidence in using relevant IT applications independently.
Experience of resolving disputes and handling complex complaints and grievances.
