How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is an excellent opportunity for Civil Design Engineers looking to develop their careers while working on major AMP8 and future AMP9 programmes across water and wastewater infrastructure.

    The Role

You will contribute to the delivery of outline and detailed civil designs, construction-ready drawings and technical documentation for a range of water infrastructure projects.

Projects may include water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations, rising mains, pipelines, sewerage infrastructure, river health projects and wider asset upgrades.

Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you will collaborate with structural, mechanical, electrical and ICA engineers to develop practical, coordinated and buildable solutions.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Producing outline and detailed civil designs and calculations

    * Preparing technical reports, specifications and construction documentation

    * Developing designs for treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines and associated infrastructure

    * Supporting feasibility studies, optioneering and concept development

    * Coordinating civil design with structural, mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines

    * Participating in design reviews and technical discussions

    * Liaising with clients, contractors and project stakeholders

    * Ensuring designs meet relevant UK standards and project requirements

    * Supporting delivery against programme, cost and quality objectives

    * Applying CDM and design assurance requirements

    * Supporting and mentoring graduate and junior engineers where appropriate

    * Contributing to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

    About You

We are interested in Civil Design Engineers with experience in the water and wastewater sector, particularly those who have worked on treatment works, clean water, wastewater, sewerage or associated infrastructure projects.

    You should have:

    * A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

    * Experience delivering civil engineering design

    * Experience within the UK water industry is highly desirable

    * Knowledge of relevant UK standards and design requirements

    * Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams

    * Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills

    * Good communication and stakeholder management abilities

    * A practical approach to developing safe, efficient and buildable designs

Chartered status, or a willingness to work towards chartership, would be advantageous. Membership of a relevant professional institution is also desirable.

    What’s On Offer

This is an opportunity to join major UK water industry programmes and work on technically challenging projects with significant long-term investment behind them.

You will have the opportunity to:

    * Work on major AMP8 and future AMP9 programmes

    * Develop your technical design and project delivery experience

    * Take greater ownership of design workstreams

    * Work alongside experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams

    * Contribute to resilient and sustainable water infrastructure

    * Develop towards chartership and further professional qualifications

    * Progress your career within a growing engineering environment

    Location & Working Pattern

Hybrid working is available across regional UK offices, with flexibility depending on project requirements and regular site visits where required.

Multiple locations and opportunities are available.

If you are a Civil Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity within the UK water sector, we'd be keen to hear from you.
