How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Exciting Opportunity for a Traffic Signals Systems Engineer in East Yorkshire

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Traffic Signals Systems Engineer to join a Local Authority highways team in East Yorkshire.
This role is focused predominantly on the management, operation and maintenance of traffic signal systems rather than detailed traffic signal design.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the authority's traffic signal network, overseeing its UTC/SCOOT systems, maintenance contractor, communications infrastructure, system performance and the delivery and commissioning of signal upgrades and refurbishments.

The main duties of the Traffic Signals Systems Engineer include:

·Managing the day-to-day operation and performance of the authority's traffic signal systems and associated infrastructure.
·Managing and supervising the Traffic Signal Maintenance Contractor and associated subcontractors.
·Monitoring contractor performance, fault response, maintenance standards and delivery against contractual requirements.
·Managing and monitoring UTC/SCOOT traffic control systems to support the effective operation of the highway network.
·Reviewing system and network performance, identifying faults or operational issues and coordinating appropriate remedial action.
·Managing traffic signal communications systems and supporting upgrades to modern IP-based communications networks.
·Supporting the management, configuration and ongoing development of traffic signal control technology.
·Managing traffic signal refurbishment, replacement and upgrade programmes.
·Overseeing new traffic signal installations through delivery, testing, commissioning and handover.
·Managing and attending Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
·Supporting SCOOT validation and optimisation of existing signal-controlled junctions where required.
·Managing capital and maintenance budgets associated with the traffic signal network.
·Supporting the procurement, implementation and ongoing management of Traffic Signal Maintenance Contracts.
·Maintaining appropriate asset, fault, maintenance and system records.
·Working closely with contractors, highways teams, network-management colleagues and other Local Authority stakeholders.
·Responding to technical enquiries from Councillors, stakeholders and members of the public.

The Traffic Signals Systems Engineer will have key experience in:

·Previous experience managing or operating traffic signal systems within a Local Authority, consultancy or traffic signals environment.
·Strong working knowledge of UTC and SCOOT traffic control systems.
·Experience managing traffic signal maintenance contractors and monitoring contractor performance.
·Good understanding of traffic signal controllers, detection equipment, communications networks and associated roadside technology.
·Experience identifying and resolving traffic signal faults and operational issues.
·Experience with traffic signal refurbishment, upgrades, installation and commissioning.
·Knowledge of FAT and SAT processes for traffic signal equipment.
·Experience with SCOOT validation and network performance would be highly advantageous.
·Knowledge of MOVA and other traffic control methodologies would be beneficial.
·Experience managing traffic signal maintenance programmes, contracts or budgets.
·An understanding of IP-based traffic signal communications and modern traffic-control technology would be advantageous.
·The ability to manage a traffic signal function and work effectively with contractors with minimal supervision.
·Previous Local Authority traffic signals experience would be highly desirable.

Please note that this is not primarily a detailed traffic signal design position. The role is focused on traffic signal systems management, network operation, maintenance, contractor management, system performance and commissioning.
