How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    High Voltage Engineer (HV Engineer) - Major Substation Project
    North Wales
    Long-Term Freelance Contract (Approx. 2 Years)
    £450 - £550 per day (CIS/Ltd Company, DOE)

    A well-established engineering contractor delivering works on a major electrical infrastructure project in South Wales is looking for a HV Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HV Engineer to join a long-term substation project, supporting installation, testing, commissioning and energisation activities across critical power infrastructure.

    With approximately two years' work available, this role offers the opportunity to become part of a major project team delivering essential UK energy infrastructure.

    Duties

    * Installation of High Voltage electrical equipment

    * Supporting substation construction and commissioning activities

    * Cable installation, termination and testing

    * Functional testing and fault finding

    * Supporting energisation and commissioning programmes

    * Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical drawings

    * Working closely with project, commissioning and site management teams

    * Ensuring all works are completed safely and in accordance with project procedures

    * Assisting with commissioning records, test documentation and quality documentation

    * Supporting successful delivery of major power infrastructure works

    Requirements

    * Previous experience working as an HV Engineer on substation or power infrastructure projects

    * Strong installation, testing or commissioning experience

    * Experience working within transmission, distribution, utilities or power generation environments

    * Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation

    * Strong understanding of safe working practices around HV systems

    * Relevant electrical qualifications

    * Full UK Driving Licence

    Highly Desirable

    -National Grid experience
    -DNO or ICP project experience
    -Substation construction experience
    -Commissioning experience
    -ECS Card
    -CSCS Card
    -SSSTS or SMSTS
    -HV Authorisations or AP experience

    Please Note

    This role is best suited to candidates with previous High Voltage, power transmission, power distribution, utilities, substation or electrical infrastructure experience.
