How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Site Engineer

    Location: Oxfordshire
    Salary: £60,000 to £70,000 + car allowance + pension
    Sector: Life sciences / New build

    We are working with an established main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Engineer for a highly complex construction project in Oxfordshire.The scheme is valued at approximately £60 million and is being delivered for a government-backed organisation operating within the life sciences sector. Due to the nature of the facility, the project will involve a high level of technical coordination, quality control and engineering accuracy.

    This is a site-based position working as part of an experienced project team that will include a Project Manager and Senior Site Manager. The Senior Engineer will take responsibility for the site engineering function and oversee a team of Site Engineers throughout the project. Candidates based around Oxford, Reading, Slough, Northampton or Bristol will be considered, provided they are comfortable travelling to the project in Oxfordshire.

    The Role

    As Senior Engineer, you will work closely with the Project Manager, Senior Site Manager, design team, consultants, subcontractors and wider supply chain.You will provide engineering leadership across a range of packages, including:

    Earthworks
    Piling
    Groundworks and drainage
    Structural steel
    Reinforced concrete structures
    Cladding and external envelope packages
    Temporary works
    General construction packagesKey Responsibilities

    Take overall responsibility for the site engineering function
    Lead, support and manage the Site Engineers working across the project
    Carry out and oversee setting out and dimensional control
    Review drawings, specifications and contract information
    Identify buildability issues and raise technical queries where required
    Ensure drawings and construction information remain accurate and up to date
    Check subcontractor setting out and completed works
    Commission and manage external surveys
    Coordinate permits and licences with statutory bodies where required
    Help develop and manage the project's temporary works requirements
    Ensure compliance with the contractor's temporary works procedures
    Produce, review and implement Inspection and Test Plans
    Maintain accurate engineering, quality and compliance records
    Compile reports demonstrating that the works meet the required specifications
    Ensure construction activities comply with drawings, specifications and agreed tolerances
    Provide engineering input into the construction programme and site logistics
    Monitor progress against programme and report any potential risks or delays
    Work closely with subcontractors to manage progress and resolve technical issues
    Chair and record subcontractor progress meetings where required
    Produce weekly and monthly progress information
    Maintain accurate daily site records
    Identify changes that could affect the programme, cost or delivery of the works
    Ensure approved RAMS, inductions and relevant site controls are in place
    Maintain compliance with all SHEQ policies and procedures
    Support the training, development and performance reviews of the Site EngineersAbout You

    We are looking for an experienced construction engineer who has worked on technically demanding building projects and is comfortable taking responsibility for the engineering function on site.
    You should have:

    A Degree, HND or equivalent construction or civil engineering qualification
    At least five years' experience in a similar site engineering role
    Experience working as a Senior Engineer, Senior Site Engineer or experienced Section Engineer
    Strong setting-out and dimensional-control experience
    Previous experience on large-scale building projects
    Good knowledge of groundworks and steel-framed construction
    Experience managing or supporting other Site Engineers
    A good understanding of temporary works
    Experience producing and managing ITPs and quality records
    The ability to read and review technical drawings and specifications
    Strong communication and coordination skills
    A valid driving licence
    SMSTSExperience with reinforced concrete structures, including slipform or jumpform construction, would be beneficial, First Aid training and previous experience using Field View or 4Projects Viewpoint would also be advantageous.
