How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Title:  Business Development Manager

    Location: Manchester

    Salary: £38,000 - £52,000 + Car allowance

    The Client

Our client are an established industrial supplies and distribution specialist, they  supply a broad range of products to B2B customers, they are looking for a driven new business hunter to expand their customer base and grow active spend across our product range.

The role of Business Development Manager / Business Development Executive

As Business Development Manager, you will enjoy contacting prospects, spotting opportunities to add value, developing compelling proposals and closing deals to secure new business and drive growth. This is strictly a new business role, not account management. Your focus will be on identifying new prospects, converting them into open accounts, and building active spend against our quotes list and product basket.

You will be confident selling B2B products and just as comfortable prospecting by phone and online as you are in face-to-face meetings. Knowledge of the utilities, telecoms, defence, transportation, manufacturing or engineering sectors is an advantage; your attitude and hunger to succeed are essential.

Product knowledge of security or PPE products is particularly desirable.

You will take ownership of your sales pipeline, working closely with internal product specialists, manufacturers and suppliers, and thinking strategically about how we can help customers reduce costs and improve efficiency. With a hunter mentality and a proven track record of winning new business, you will have the freedom to use your own initiative, backed by the support of our commercial, product and sales support teams.

As one of the first people a prospective customer meets, you will represent the brand professionally and confidently at every level, from cold calls through to presenting to Heads of Procurement at large blue-chip organisations.

Key Responsibilities of the Business Development Manager / Business Development Executive

Identify potential customers in key target sectors, developing and maintaining a targeted sales pipeline to consistently initiate contact and win new business.
Understand customer requirements and the competitive environment, identifying where we can maximise customer value and develop long-term customer relationships.
Produce and present tailored quotations, proposals and presentations that meet customer needs and profitability targets.
Use market awareness and product knowledge to provide prospective customers with detailed information and compelling proposals to secure new accounts.
Negotiate sales and contractual terms of business with customers and where required with suppliers, using pricing structures to win and maintain profitable long-term accounts.
Regularly update company systems, detailing prospecting activity, sales pipeline and outcomes.
Travel to appointments across the UK as required, with up to two nights away per week.
Represent the company at customer and industry events, networking and following up to build contacts with decision makers and achieve opportunities to quote.
    What You Will Bring

A minimum of 3 years' proven experience in new business development or a lead-generation sales role, ideally selling into utilities, telecoms or defence markets.
Security and/or PPE sector knowledge is highly desirable.
A demonstrable track record of achieving financial objectives and targets through winning new business.
Experience selling products in a B2B environment, ideally with exposure to high-level procurement teams.
The ability to source products to meet customer requirements.
    A degree or HND-level qualification.
The ability to develop business opportunities across multiple market sectors, including utilities, manufacturing, transportation and defence.
Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel and stay overnight when required.
