How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Transport Planner

    Location: Bury St Edmunds

    Contract: Permanent

    The Role

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy transport and logistics operation. This is a hands-on role responsible for planning and coordinating daily deliveries through a network of approved subcontracted transport providers.

Working closely with customers, warehouse teams, sales colleagues and transport providers, you will ensure deliveries are planned efficiently, customer requirements are met and any operational issues are resolved quickly.

This is an ideal opportunity for an organised and commercially aware transport professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change throughout the day.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Plan and optimise daily delivery schedules to ensure efficient and cost-effective transport operations.

    * Allocate work across a network of subcontracted transport providers.

    * Maximise vehicle utilisation while maintaining excellent customer service levels.

    * Monitor deliveries and respond quickly to delays, changes and customer requirements.

    * Re-plan routes and deliveries where necessary to minimise disruption.

    * Liaise with subcontracted hauliers regarding daily deliveries and collections.

    * Clearly communicate delivery instructions, customer requirements and site restrictions.

    * Monitor carrier performance and escalate issues where appropriate.

    * Provide customers with delivery updates and manage transport enquiries.

    * Work closely with Sales and Warehouse teams to coordinate deliveries and loading requirements.

    * Ensure transport documentation is completed accurately.

    * Manage Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation and investigate outstanding queries.

    * Maintain accurate transport records, planning systems and operational documentation.

    * Produce reports and operational information as required.

    * Identify opportunities to improve transport efficiency, processes and customer service.

    About You

We are looking for someone with:

Previous experience as a Transport Planner or Logistics Planner.

Experience working with subcontracted carriers or third-party transport providers.

Strong route planning and scheduling experience.

Experience using a Transport Management System (TMS) or route planning software.

Experience working in a fast-paced transport or logistics environment.

Experience managing Proof of Delivery (POD) processes.

    Good geographical knowledge.

Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

The ability to prioritise competing demands and make confident decisions under pressure.

Good commercial awareness, with the ability to balance customer service and transport costs.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    Competence using Microsoft Office applications.

    Desirable Experience

It would be advantageous if you have experience within:

    Construction materials

    Manufacturing

    Industrial distribution

    Integrated transport planning systems

    Transport performance reporting and KPIs

Knowledge of transport legislation and compliance would also be beneficial.

    What We're Looking For

You will be a highly organised and methodical individual who remains calm under pressure and takes a proactive, solutions-focused approach.

You will need to be confident communicating with customers, subcontractors and colleagues, while being comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team.

Flexibility is important, as the role will involve responding to changing operational requirements and customer demands.

If you're an experienced Transport Planner looking for your next opportunity, we'd love to hear from you
