How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Architect / Building Surveyor / Building Engineer - Design Manager / Project Engineer

    Location: Southwark / Stratford / Hybrid
    Working: 50% home working / 50% office and site-based
    Contract:6 months initially
    Start Date: ASAP
    Rate: Dependent on experience and competency

    The Role

    We are looking for an experienced Architect, Building Surveyor or Building Engineer with Design Management experience to support London Underground Renewals.

    You will work as a Design Manager / Project Engineer, coordinating different engineering disciplines, managing design information and supporting the London Underground assurance process.

    This is a varied role involving office, home and site-based working within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Coordinate design and engineering activities across different disciplines.
    Support the delivery of London Underground renewal projects.
    Manage design interfaces and technical information.
    Support the London Underground assurance process.
    Review designs and technical documents.
    Work with engineers, designers, contractors and other stakeholders.
    Attend site visits and project meetings.
    Help identify and resolve technical and design issues.

    About You

    You will ideally have:

    Experience as an Architect, Building Surveyor or Building Engineer.
    Strong Design Management experience.
    Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
    Good technical and communication skills.
    Experience working within a formal assurance or governance process.
    RIBA, RICS or MCIOB qualification/membership.

    Desirable

    Previous rail or London Underground experience.
    Experience with renewal, refurbishment or infrastructure projects.
    Knowledge of rail assurance processes.

    Working Arrangement

    The role is based on a hybrid basis, with approximately:

    50% working from home
    50% working from the Southwark or Stratford office
    Some site-based work as required
