How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Role:

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join their Wastewater Non-Infrastructure team.

This is a technically focused role where you will provide technical leadership and guidance to a skilled design team while also taking responsibility for delivering your own civil engineering designs.

You will work across Wastewater Non-Infrastructure projects, including process upgrade schemes focused on areas such as phosphorus and nitrogen removal. The role combines technical design, engineering problem-solving, project delivery, stakeholder management and financial awareness.

You will work closely with Project Design Leads and a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, innovatively and with strong value for money.

    About the Client:

Our client is a major UK water company responsible for providing essential water and wastewater services to customers across the South of England.

This is an opportunity to join an established Civil Engineering function, working alongside experienced Principal, Senior and Junior Engineers on a varied portfolio of wastewater projects.

    Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership and guidance to the civil engineering design team.
Lead the delivery of Wastewater Non-Infrastructure projects from a civil engineering perspective.
Develop and deliver detailed civil engineering designs.
Provide technical input into wastewater process upgrade projects.
Analyse technical information and project data to support effective engineering decisions.
Identify, investigate and resolve complex engineering issues.
Work collaboratively with Project Design Leads and wider project teams.
Manage technical aspects of projects, ensuring delivery against programme, quality and financial requirements.
Ensure projects comply with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, communicating technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency and improved value for money.
Take ownership of engineering decisions and drive solutions through to resolution.

What Our Client is Looking For:

Strong experience in Wastewater Non-Infrastructure Civil Engineering.
Experience working on wastewater process upgrades or similar treatment projects.
Experience of civil engineering design and technical delivery.
Experience working on phosphorus and/or nitrogen removal projects would be advantageous.
Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to provide technical leadership and support to other engineers.
A proactive approach, with the confidence to make decisions and drive resolutions.
Chartered Engineer status is preferred, although experienced candidates who are Incorporated or working towards chartership will also be considered.
Candidates with relevant Water Treatment or Infrastructure experience may also be considered where they can demonstrate strong transferable wastewater experience.

    What Our Client Offers:

    £55,000-£78,000 salary, dependent on experience.
    5% company and performance-related bonus.
Employer pension contribution of up to 10%.
Potential £5,000-£10,000 joining package, subject to eligibility.
    28 days' annual leave.
Life assurance of four times annual salary.
Health benefits through a cash plan.
Two paid community volunteering days per year.
    Occupational health service.
Perkbox benefits, offering discounts and savings across a range of products and experiences.
Study support may be available for relevant job-related qualifications.
Competitive maternity leave and flexible return-to-work options.
Hybrid working, with two days per week in the Falmer office.

    Eligibility:

Candidates should have the right to work in the UK and be able to work from the Falmer office two days per week, with Monday and Thursday being the required office days.

    Opportunity for Growth:

This role offers the opportunity to take a leading technical position within an established Civil Engineering team, with exposure to complex wastewater projects and opportunities to develop technical leadership, project delivery and stakeholder management skills.

Our client is committed to supporting ongoing professional development and career progression, including opportunities for relevant training and qualifications.
