How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Teaching Assistant - SEND & Classroom Support - Newport
    September 2026 Start

Do you have a good understanding of the support some children need to access learning and enjoy helping pupils get the most from their time in school?

Academics is currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established primary school in Newport that is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is a varied classroom-based role, supporting pupils who may have additional learning needs or require extra encouragement throughout the school day. You will work closely with teaching staff and provide support both within lessons and through more focused activities with individuals or small groups.

Depending on the needs of the pupils, this could include helping children with phonics, reading, writing and maths, supporting them to follow classroom routines and making sure they are able to engage with activities.

The school is looking for someone who can build strong relationships with pupils and create a positive, supportive environment. You will need to be able to recognise when a child is struggling, provide reassurance and adapt your approach to help them move forward.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with relevant experience who is keen to develop their career within primary education.

    What we're looking for:

    * Experience of working with children, ideally within a primary school or educational setting.
    * An understanding of the importance of supporting pupils with additional learning needs.
    * The ability to adjust your approach and activities according to individual pupils' needs.
    * A patient, positive and supportive manner.
    * Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a school team.
    * Good organisation and classroom management skills.
    * An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
    * Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
    * Two recent professional references.

    Why apply through Academics?

    Competitive daily and weekly pay.
Holiday pay included in your daily rate.
Opportunities to work within supportive and inclusive schools across South Wales.
Ongoing guidance from a dedicated consultant with direct experience working in primary schools.
Flexible and long-term opportunities to suit your lifestyle. If you're looking for a role where you can support pupils both academically and personally, while working alongside an experienced school team, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a Newport primary school from September.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
