How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

I'm currently working with a well-established transport and infrastructure consultancy looking to strengthen its technical team with the appointment of a Design Technician.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 2+ years' experience in highway design, transport planning or a related engineering environment who enjoys producing high-quality technical drawings and supporting development-focused projects.

Working within a collaborative team, you'll be involved in delivering preliminary highway and junction designs, access arrangements, swept path assessments and professional graphics that support planning and transport projects across the UK.

    The Role

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Producing technical drawings using AutoCAD
Preparing highway access and junction layouts, including priority junctions, roundabouts and signalised junctions
Undertaking Swept Path Analysis using AutoTrack
Producing high-quality graphics and figures using GIS and graphic design software
Supporting the delivery of transport planning and infrastructure projects
Working closely with engineers and transport planners to develop design solutions
Contributing to reports, presentations and client deliverables

    About You

I'm keen to speak with candidates who have:

A qualification in Civil Engineering, Geography, Transport Planning or a related discipline (HNC/HND/Degree)
At least 2 years' relevant industry experience
    Experience using AutoCAD
Working knowledge of AutoTrack for vehicle tracking assessments
Exposure to development-focused transport planning or highway design projects
Strong communication skills and attention to detail
A proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with GIS, CorelDRAW or similar graphics packages would be advantageous but is not essential.

    What's on Offer

    In return, you'll receive:

    Competitive salary based on experience
25 days annual leave, increasing with service
    Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
    Private medical insurance
    Health cash plan
    Enhanced pension provision
    Life assurance and death-in-service cover
    Cycle-to-work and travel loan schemes
    Annual bonus scheme
    Modern IT equipment and software
Ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities
If you're a Design Technician looking to develop your career within a respected transport and infrastructure consultancy, I'd be interested in having a confidential conversation.
