How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Stock Condition Surveyor
    Location: Basildon, Essex
Contract: Temporary, Full Time - Initial 3-6 Months
    Rate: £32.00 per hour (Umbrella)
    Closing Date: 17th August 2026
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Stock Condition Surveyor to join Basildon Borough Council on an initial 3-6 month temporary contract.
Working within the Council's Landlord Services team, you will play an important role in supporting the long-term strategic management of a substantial housing portfolio comprising more than 11,000 social rented homes and associated assets.
The Council operates a significant rolling revenue and capital investment programme of approximately £36-38 million per year, and accurate stock condition information is essential in helping to inform future maintenance, improvement and investment decisions.
    The Role
Reporting to the Stock Condition Co-ordinator, you will undertake property surveys and collect accurate condition data across the Council's housing stock and associated assets.
    Key responsibilities will include:
·Undertaking stock condition surveys to assess individual properties, key building elements, remaining component life and required works.
·Carrying out HHSRS assessments and identifying potential Category 1 hazards to ensure appropriate action can be taken.
·Collecting property energy efficiency data for RdSAP calculations.
·Producing accurate survey records and clear, concise reports to support strategic investment planning.
·Working with information relating to repairs, maintenance and improvement programmes delivered by the Council, contractors, consultants and partner organisations.
·Ensuring duties are undertaken in accordance with relevant Health & Safety procedures and legislation.
    What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:
·Previous experience within building surveying or architectural practice.
·Strong experience undertaking stock condition surveys, HHSRS assessments and RdSAP data collection.
·Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
·Domestic Energy Assessment training or relevant experience.
·A minimum qualification to ONC level or equivalent.
    ·Strong report-writing and record-management skills.
·Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience using handheld surveying software.
·A good standard of literacy and numeracy.
This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Stock Condition Surveyor looking to secure their next local authority contract and contribute to a substantial housing investment programme.
    Interested?
For more information or to discuss the position in confidence, please get in touch. Applications are being considered ahead of the 17th August 2026 closing date, so early interest is encouraged
