How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Connect2Hackney, as the internal talent team for the London Borough of Hackney, are excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced Data Analyst to join our forward-thinking Customer Services, Digital & Data team.

In this key role, you will be working at SFIA Level 4 ('Enable') to bridge the gap between raw data and impactful organisational decision-making. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the Council to translate complex business challenges into actionable insights, build user-friendly dashboards, and champion data-driven service improvements that directly benefit Hackney's residents and local businesses.

    Key Responsibilities

Identify, clean, aggregate, and analyse internal and external datasets. Design and automate high-impact visualisations and dashboards that empower leaders to make faster, better-informed decisions.
Partner across directorates and matrixed teams (e.g., Insight Service, Customer Experience, Digital Products) to understand business processes, key KPIs, and analytics requirements.
Collaborate with Data Engineers and data owners to build trusted, reusable datasets using open-source languages and the Council's analytical data platform.
Work within an Agile framework to iteratively deliver insights. Promote data sharing, best practices, and innovative analytical tools across the organisation.
Implement robust data management, privacy, security, and risk controls to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility of information assets.
Provide direct line management for an Associate Analyst, contribute to multidisciplinary teams, and join an out-of-hours user support rota (with additional payment provided).

    What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an analytical professional operating at SFIA Level 4 who demonstrates autonomy, influence, and strong technical problem-solving capabilities:

    Core Competencies & Technical Skills

Data Visualisation: Proven experience using leading data analytics and visualisation tools to design, operationalise, and automate clear reports and visual formats.
Data Science: Ability to investigate complex problem sets, apply data science techniques/programming languages, evaluate models, and integrate data sources.
Data Modelling & Design: Skill in investigating ambiguous enterprise data requirements, planning data structures, and offering architectural guidance.
Business Intelligence: Strong background in querying and optimising non-standard BI tools to streamline operational data and drive governance/management decisions.
Information Assurance: Understanding of risk management, information security, data protection/privacy, and accreditation frameworks.

    About You

Comfortable working under general direction, taking accountability, and planning tasks to hit quality targets.
Fluent in translating complex technical data into plain, structured narrative stories for both non-technical and technical audiences.
Adaptable, fast-paced mindset comfortable with iterative design and continuous learning.

    Qualifications

Ideally educated to a Bachelor's degree level and/or holds a relevant professional qualification.
Equivalent practical experience working at a similar technical level will be fully considered in lieu of formal qualifications.

    Why Join Hackney Council?

Community Impact: Work directly on corporate objectives and Mayor's priorities that create positive social outcomes for Hackney's diverse community.
Professional Growth: Active investment in your professional development, training opportunities, and peer networks.
