How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Quantity Surveyor - Water Infrastructure
    Location: Thames Valley
    Salary: Up to £85,000 + Company Car/Allowance + Benefits
    Contract: Permanent
    The Opportunity
    Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to join a major water and wastewater capital delivery programme across the Thames Valley region.
    This is an excellent opportunity to join an established infrastructure business delivering essential projects designed to improve the resilience, performance and long-term sustainability of the UK's water network.
    You will take commercial ownership of a portfolio of projects, working closely with operational teams, project management and the wider supply chain to ensure strong commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
    The role will involve managing valuations, contract administration, change, cost reporting, subcontractor accounts and commercial risk, while also providing guidance and support to junior members of the commercial team.
    Key Responsibilities
    As Senior Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
    ·Taking commercial responsibility for a portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
    ·Preparing, reviewing and submitting valuations and applications for payment.
    ·Monitoring certifications, payments and project cashflow.
    ·Managing variations, compensation events and contractual change.
    ·Ensuring commercial submissions are accurate, timely and fully supported.
    ·Acting as a key commercial point of contact for disputed or rejected valuations and applications.
    ·Working closely with operational and project delivery teams to provide commercial advice and guidance.
    ·Managing project costs against contract value, budgets and margin expectations.
    ·Preparing and reviewing Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
    ·Managing WIP, accruals, forecasting and revenue reporting.
    ·Validating project cost information and identifying discrepancies or potential commercial exposure.
    ·Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and ensuring appropriate mitigation or recovery strategies are implemented.
    ·Managing subcontractor accounts from appointment through to final account.
    ·Reviewing subcontractor applications, variations and commercial claims.
    ·Building strong relationships with subcontractors and supply chain partners.
    ·Supporting procurement and subcontract administration activities.
    ·Maintaining accurate commercial records, contractual notices, correspondence and risk registers.
    ·Ensuring project and subcontract documentation remains compliant and up to date.
    ·Preparing and reviewing project cashflow forecasts.
    ·Supporting the resolution of commercial and contractual disputes.
    ·Maximising commercial recovery and identifying opportunities to improve project margin.
    ·Providing commercial insight during monthly project and business reviews.
    ·Supporting and mentoring junior members of the Quantity Surveying team.
    ·Promoting strong commercial governance and consistent best practice across projects.
    About You
    To be considered for this position, you should have:
    ·Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction, infrastructure or utilities.
    ·Strong knowledge of commercial management, cost control and contract administration.
    ·Working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
    ·Experience managing valuations, applications for payment, variations and compensation events.
    ·Strong understanding of CVRs, WIP, accruals, forecasting and commercial reporting.
    ·Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain partners.
    ·The ability to identify, manage and escalate commercial risks and opportunities.
    ·Strong numerical, analytical and financial reporting skills.
    ·Good Microsoft Excel and commercial management system experience.
    ·Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    ·Confidence challenging commercial decisions when required.
    ·Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
    ·A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
    RICS or CICES accreditation, or currently working towards professional accreditation, would be advantageous.
    Experience working with FIDIC or JCT contracts, mentoring junior commercial staff or delivering projects within the water sector would also be beneficial.
