How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Vehicle Technician
     
    Location: Edinburgh
    Salary: Up to £48,000 basic per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
    Additional Earnings: Performance-related earning opportunities
    Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
    Hours: Monday to Friday - no regular weekend working

    ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Senior Vehicle Technician to join a well-established and expanding independent automotive workshop in Edinburgh.
     
    The business is investing in additional workshop premises that will more than double its current capacity, creating an excellent opportunity to join during an exciting period of growth.
     
    This position would suit an accomplished Senior Mechanic, Diagnostic Technician, Master Technician or Lead Vehicle Technician who enjoys solving difficult faults, carrying out complex repairs and sharing knowledge with other members of the workshop team.
     
    You will remain hands-on with servicing, diagnostics and major repairs while acting as a trusted technical point of reference for developing technicians.
     
    The Role
    Working across a broad range of makes, models and vehicle technologies, you will diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
     
    The workshop is looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with curiosity, humility and a genuine willingness to continue learning as automotive technology develops.
     
    You will work within a collaborative environment that values teamwork, family life and work-life balance. This is a workshop without unnecessary egos, where technicians support one another and difficult faults are approached as a team.
     
    Key Responsibilities

    Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults
    Use diagnostic equipment, technical data and wiring diagrams to identify root causes
    Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to manufacturer standards
    Complete engine, gearbox, clutch, braking, steering and suspension repairs
    Diagnose engine-management, emissions, DPF and AdBlue faults
    Investigate intermittent and difficult-to-replicate vehicle issues
    Carry out timing-belt, wet-belt and associated engine repairs
    Diagnose and repair automotive electrical systems
    Support other technicians with challenging diagnostic and repair work
    Provide practical guidance and technical mentoring to developing technicians
    Carry out quality checks and road tests following repairs
    Clearly communicate technical findings to the workshop and service teams
    Accurately complete job cards, inspection reports and supporting documentation
    Identify and report additional repair requirements professionally
    Maintain high standards of workmanship, productivity and attention to detail
    Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe
    Follow all company health and safety procedures What We're Looking For

    Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent
    Significant experience as a Vehicle Technician, Diagnostic Technician, Master Technician or Senior Mechanic
    Strong mechanical, electrical and electronic diagnostic ability
    Proven experience resolving complex or intermittent vehicle faults
    Confidence using modern diagnostic equipment and technical information systems
    Experience completing major mechanical repairs
    Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical data
    Good knowledge of modern engine-management and emissions systems
    A curious and methodical approach to fault-finding
    Willingness to learn about developing vehicle technologies
    Ability to support and guide less experienced technicians
    Collaborative, adaptable and team-focused attitude
    High standards of workmanship and attention to detail

    Hybrid or electric vehicle qualifications, high-voltage experience, manufacturer training, diagnostic accreditation or experience working with 4x4 and Land Rover vehicles would also be beneficial.
