How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electrical Engineer – Power Distribution

    Location: Hartlepool

    The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a major engineering project based in Hartlepool.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical engineer with strong experience in industrial power distribution systems, particularly 11kV and 400V, to take a key role in the delivery of electrical infrastructure within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

The successful candidate will provide technical engineering support across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility, design and contractor engagement through to construction, installation, testing and commissioning.

You will work closely with project managers, construction teams, contractors, designers, customers and other engineering disciplines to ensure electrical works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical, quality, cost and programme standards.

    Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of 11kV and 400V power distribution systems for a large industrial site.
Manage the technical interface with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO), including supporting and negotiating technical agreements for new electrical connections.
Provide engineering oversight of the installation, commissioning, modification and maintenance of electrical systems.
Coordinate electrical works within live and regulated environments, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work, permit requirements, applicable standards and procedures.
Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager on electrical infrastructure matters.
Produce and maintain engineering documentation, including technical specifications, quality plans, drawings and supporting documentation.
Manage and respond to technical queries in accordance with established processes.
Support contractor selection and contract placement activities.
Undertake technical reviews of contractor documentation, designs and drawings.
Carry out technical appraisals of project options and provide sound engineering recommendations.
Undertake feasibility studies and electrical site surveys.
Develop effective working relationships with designers, contractors and customer engineering teams.
Prepare Engineering Changes and coordinate associated supporting and affected documentation.
Review commissioning documentation and oversee testing and commissioning activities where required.
Provide technical engineering advice and support across projects and business activities.
Author and verify technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Prepare technical proposals and engineering responses for tenders and bids.
Liaise with suppliers, customers, regulators and other project stakeholders.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced engineers.

    Essential Experience & Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you should have:

    A degree in Electrical Engineering.
Proven experience designing industrial power distribution systems at 11kV and 400V.
Working knowledge of the technical interface between privately owned power distribution systems and DNO / National Grid systems.
Experience working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards.
Strong knowledge and practical experience of applicable safety, environmental and quality standards, legislation and regulatory requirements.
Experience delivering construction projects in accordance with CDM requirements.
Experience producing technical designs in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
Experience creating electrical specifications and associated drawings.
A proven ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering activities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to undertake engineering calculations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

    Desirable Experience

    The following would be advantageous:

Previous experience working directly for or with a DNO.
Experience of HV installation and testing.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
A formal project management qualification, such as APM PMQ.
Experience leading projects with increased complexity and scope.
Experience within the nuclear, decommissioning, energy or major industrial sectors.
Experience providing technical input into tenders, bids and engineering proposals.

    Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to work on a technically challenging project within a highly regulated and safety-critical industrial environment, with significant exposure to electrical infrastructure, HV systems, project delivery and stakeholder management.

The role would suit an experienced Electrical Engineer looking to take greater ownership of complex power distribution projects while developing their experience within the nuclear, decommissioning or wider regulated engineering sector.

If you have strong 11kV/400V power distribution experience and are looking for your next challenging engineering opportunity, we would like to hear from you
