How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Salary: From 60k
    Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Sector: Retail Fit-Out & Electrical Contracting

    The Opportunity

My client is an established and growing retail fit-out and electrical contracting business based in Baldock. We are looking for an experienced SHEQ Manager to take ownership of Health & Safety, Quality, Environmental and compliance activities across the business.

This is a hands-on senior position where you will work closely with the Managing Director, senior management, project teams, site staff, clients and subcontractors.

A key part of the role will be developing and implementing an effective Integrated Management System (IMS) and leading the business towards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.

    Key Responsibilities

Take overall responsibility for SHEQ across live retail fit-out, construction and electrical projects.

Develop, implement and continually improve Health & Safety systems and procedures.

Ensure RAMS, risk assessments and method statements are suitable, current and effectively implemented.

Carry out site inspections, audits and investigations, including incidents and near misses.

Provide practical SHEQ advice and guidance to directors, managers and site teams.

Develop and implement an Integrated Management System covering Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety requirements.

Lead the business through the process of achieving ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.

Carry out gap analysis and prepare the company for Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits.

Develop quality procedures covering inspections, snagging, handovers and non-conformances.

Establish suitable environmental controls covering waste, WEEE, hazardous materials, dust and noise.

Manage SHEQ requirements relating to suppliers, subcontractors and the wider supply chain.

Maintain legal registers, risk registers and compliance documentation.

Monitor relevant electrical and construction standards and legislation.

Produce SHEQ reports, KPIs and performance information for senior management.

Deliver toolbox talks, training and SHEQ communications across the business.

Promote a positive safety and quality culture throughout the organisation.

    About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

NEBOSH Diploma, preferably with a construction background.

Significant experience working within Health & Safety and Quality.

Previous experience within construction, retail fit-out, electrical contracting, M&E or building services.

Proven experience implementing ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Experience taking a business through first-time ISO certification.

Experience dealing with external/UKAS certification audits.

Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality legislation.

Experience working with subcontractors and supply chains.

Strong knowledge of RAMS, risk assessments, site inspections and compliance.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

The confidence to challenge and influence senior management and site teams.

A practical, hands-on approach rather than relying solely on paperwork.

    Desirable Experience

Internal Auditor qualification for ISO 9001, 14001 or 45001.

    IIRSM membership.

Experience developing an Integrated Management System.

    Supply-chain auditing experience.

Knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022.

    Experience within an SME environment.

    What's on Offer

    Permanent, full-time opportunity.

Senior position with significant responsibility and influence.

Office and site-based working in the Baldock area.

Opportunity to shape and develop the company's SHEQ function.

Lead the implementation of three major ISO standards.

Work closely with senior management and project teams.

Long-term career opportunity within a growing business.

    Interested?

If you are an experienced SHEQ Manager, HSEQ Manager, QHSE Manager, Health & Safety Manager or similar and have the relevant construction, fit-out, electrical or building services experience, we'd be keen to hear from you.
