How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Volunteer Coordinator
    We are seeking an organised and engaging Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train and support volunteer hosts helping young people facing homelessness.
    Join a supportive national team and play a key role in helping young people move towards a brighter future.
    Position: Nightstop Volunteer Coordinator
    Salary: £27,943 to £31,443 per annum
    Location: National, supporting services across London, Greater Manchester and the North East
    Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
    Contract: Six-month fixed-term contract
    Closing date: 23rd August 2026
    About the role
    Nightstop provides safe, emergency accommodation for young people facing homelessness through a network of trained volunteer hosts.
    As Nightstop Volunteer Coordinator, you will help grow and strengthen this vital network. You will attract new volunteers, guide them through safer recruitment and onboarding, and ensure existing hosts feel supported, informed and valued.
    Key responsibilities include:
    * Promoting volunteer opportunities through community networks, local organisations, events and online platforms
    * Recruiting and onboarding volunteer hosts, including interviews, references, DBS checks and home assessments
    * Assessing applicants’ suitability and contributing to recruitment decisions
    * Delivering training, supervision and ongoing support
    * Building strong relationships with volunteers to support engagement and retention
    * Developing partnerships with voluntary and statutory organisations
    * Representing Nightstop at meetings and community events
    * Maintaining accurate volunteer and guest records
    * Supporting monitoring, reporting, data collection and financial administration
    * Sharing learning and helping to develop best practice across the Nightstop network
    You will participate in an on-call rota and occasionally work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends.
    About you
    You will have experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers, along with an understanding of safer recruitment and safeguarding.
    You will also bring:
    * An understanding of homelessness and the challenges people experiencing it may face
    * Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
    * Confidence engaging communities, stakeholders and prospective volunteers
    * Strong organisational and administrative abilities
    * The ability to manage competing priorities and changing demands
    * Experience working collaboratively with internal and external partners
    * Confidence using databases, Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
    * The ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
    * A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
