How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

You will play a key role in developing competitive tenders, identifying operational and commercial risks, and delivering high-quality estimating solutions in line with contractual requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a strong background in major industrial, energy, petrochemical, nuclear or other highly regulated projects.

Lead the estimating function within assigned bid teams and manage estimating resources.

Undertake estimating activities directly where required.

Review drawings, specifications and technical information to develop accurate cost estimates.

Carry out detailed measurement, material take-offs and labour/equipment pricing.

Develop and review plant rates, installation methods, outputs and plant selection.

Work closely with engineering, planning, commercial and procurement teams to develop competitive bids.

Analyse subcontractor quotations and commercial submissions.

Manage preliminaries, general expenses, plant schedules and risk assessments.

Review design options and identify value engineering and cost optimisation opportunities.

Ensure all tender and contract submission requirements are fully addressed.

Prepare settlement papers and make necessary pricing adjustments.

Take responsibility for the sign-off of cost elements prior to financial submission.

Develop and maintain cost forecasts and reporting information.

Manage customer queries and contribute to post-tender negotiations and meetings.

Prepare cost information and presentations for senior management.

Ensure an effective handover of tender and bid documentation to the project commercial team.

Mentor and support Estimators and wider bid teams, providing commercial and technical guidance.

Support the implementation and development of digital estimating tools, including 5D cost planning.

Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes, systems and tools.

Ensure estimating reflects project requirements, programme, methodology and risk profile.

Promote a strong culture of Zero Harm, sustainability and continuous improvement.

    Essential Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have significant experience estimating major mechanical installation projects and will have experience with some or all of the following:

    Large HRSG boilers (2,000+ tonnes).

    Steam Turbine Generators (500MW+).

Bespoke mechanical equipment, skids and modules.

    High-integrity pipework systems.

    Exotic pipework materials.

Mechanical installation and site erection estimating.

Customer MTOs and detailed material take-offs.

Petrochemical, nuclear, power generation or other highly regulated environments.

    NAECI labour agreements.

    Major construction or engineering projects.

Subcontractor procurement and detailed quotation analysis.

    Qualifications & Skills

Proven experience managing the estimating process within the construction or engineering industry.

    Valid CSCS card.

    Strong commercial and numerical capability.

Excellent understanding of estimating principles, cost planning and risk.

Good working knowledge of MS Office and estimating systems.

Experience with digital estimating and 5D cost planning would be advantageous.

Understanding of BIM, including reading and assembling BIM models and producing reports, would be desirable.

Knowledge of Lean Construction principles and value engineering would be beneficial.

Membership of a relevant professional body or qualification such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE or CIBSE is desirable.

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience leading or mentoring an estimating team is advantageous.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight tender deadlines.

Able to build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

    The Person

We are looking for a commercially astute and technically strong Senior Estimator who can take ownership of complex mechanical estimating packages and provide clear, accurate and commercially sound advice.

You will be proactive, organised and comfortable challenging information, identifying risks and finding opportunities to improve project value.

    You will also demonstrate:

    * A strong commitment to delivering high-quality work.

    * A proactive approach to problem solving.

    * A customer-focused mindset.

    * The ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

    * Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.

    * A willingness to embrace new technology and innovative estimating solutions.

    * The ability to adapt to changing project and customer requirements.

    * A commitment to health, safety, sustainability and Zero Harm.

    Why Apply?

This is a high-profile opportunity to work on one of the UK's major Net Zero and energy infrastructure projects, providing the opportunity to play a significant role in the successful delivery of a complex, technically demanding development.
