How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Exmoor National Park is a unique and beautiful part of the country. Our vision is that Exmoor remains a beautiful landscape, leading the response to climate change and nature recovery, a welcoming place for all, as well as a great place to live, work and do business.

We are now looking for an Estate Ranger to join us on a fixed-term contract for two and a half years. This is a full-time role, although part-time working will also be considered.

    The Benefits

    - Local Government Pension Scheme

    - Time off to attend medical appointments
    - Access to trained Mental Health First Aiders and a 24/7 confidential helpline

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced countryside management professional with strong practical and project management skills to join our dedicated organisation.

You’ll have the chance to help care for one of the country’s most distinctive landscapes, broadening your experience across estate management, countryside projects and community engagement.

What’s more, you’ll benefit from flexible working options, a generous pension and strong wellbeing support within a role that offers both purpose and variety.

So, if you’re ready to put your practical skills to work protecting and enhancing Exmoor for the people and communities who enjoy it, read on and apply today.

    The Role

As an Estate Ranger, you will support the effective day-to-day management of Exmoor National Park Authority’s land, buildings and other assets.

Working closely with the Estates Manager, you will co-ordinate practical work, address operational issues and manage smaller projects across the estate.

Alongside managing the estate on the ground, you will help promote its purpose and engage local communities and visitors with projects taking place across ENPA land.

    Additionally, you will:

    - Support contractors delivering major projects
    - Manage specific projects relating to key assets
    - Liaise with tenants, leaseholders and licensees
    - Support land management schemes on in-hand land
    - Work collaboratively with Rangers, Field Services, the Estate Team and Learning & Engagement colleagues

    About You

To be considered as an Estate Ranger, you will need:

    - Experience supporting commissioning systems for countryside management
    - Experience of project management and the ability to identify, plan and deliver projects
    - An understanding of rural issues and experience in countryside management
    - Experience of working with hand tools such as chainsaws and brush cutters
    - Good practical skills in estate and countryside management
    - The ability to understand and work with technical documents, interpret geographical information and navigate effectively in remote areas and under various weather conditions
    - Knowledge and experience of Health & Safety legislation and its application
    - Competency in the use of IT systems, including Microsoft Office and GIS
    - A degree level in countryside management, a relevant subject or equivalent experience

Please note, this post requires an enhanced DBS check as it may include working with children and vulnerable people.
