How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Design Manager

    Location: Hatfield & Project Sites
    Sector: Refurbishment, Fire Remediation & Re-Cladding

    Overview

    Due to continued growth, our client is looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager with a strong main contractor background and proven experience delivering refurbishment projects from pre-construction through to completion.

    This role requires someone capable of taking the lead from day one, managing multiple projects, overcoming technical challenges, and building strong relationships with clients, consultants and project teams.

    The Role

    The Design Manager will take full responsibility for coordinating and managing the design process across multiple refurbishment and remediation projects, ensuring design information is delivered on programme, within budget and fully compliant with statutory requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design & Technical Management

    Lead consultant and surveyor procurement
    Undertake design risk appraisals and support tender submissions
    Review Employer's Requirements and contribute to Contractor's Proposals
    Develop and manage design and pre-construction programmes
    Coordinate and manage consultant teams throughout project delivery
    Monitor design progress and report against programme milestones
    Chair design team meetings and drive key deliverables
    Review design information for compliance, buildability and value engineering opportunities
    Manage design development and change control procedures
    Resolve technical and design-related issues throughout the project lifecycle

    Project Delivery & Stakeholder Management

    Support single and two-stage tender processes
    Lead design reviews
    Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders
    Liaise with statutory authorities and approval bodies
    Ensure project objectives are achieved throughout delivery

    Compliance & Building Safety

    Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, Planning Conditions and warranty requirements
    Work alongside the Principal Designer to meet Building Safety Act obligations
    Manage approvals, licences and statutory permissions
    Ensure all design information complies with health, safety and environmental requirements
    Support projects involving Higher Risk Buildings, remediation and façade replacement works

    Requirements

    Proven Design Manager experience within a Main Contractor environment
    Experience managing multiple refurb projects from start to finish
    Experience leading major refurbishment schemes
    Ability to deal with project challenges and technical issues confidently
    Significant contractor-side and commercial experience
    Understanding of construction methods, sequencing and buildability
    Experience using construction planning software
    Experience using Common Data Environments (CDEs)
