How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Estimator - Specialist Roofing & Construction

    Location: Greater Manchester
    Salary: £30,000-£50,000 DOE
Sector: Specialist Zinc & Copper Roofing / Construction

I'm recruiting on behalf of a contractor in Greater Manchester, looking to appoint an Estimator as they enter an exciting period of growth.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to join a small, close-knit business where they can genuinely make an impact. My client specialises in zinc and copper roofing, with a strong focus on sustainable construction, and is currently seeing increased demand for its specialist services.

Rather than joining a large company where you're just another number, you'll work closely with the Directors and have the opportunity to help shape the business as it grows. For the right person, there is significant scope to develop the position, take on greater responsibility and progress alongside the company, with the potential for bonus/profit-share opportunities longer term.

    The Role

As Estimator, you'll take responsibility for preparing and submitting accurate, competitive quotations while working closely with the Directors on both existing opportunities and future business growth.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing accurate and competitive project estimates from drawings and client specifications

Producing professional, well-structured quotations within required timescales

Reviewing drawings, specifications and project information to establish costs

Monitoring enquiries and identifying potential new projects

Managing the enquiries inbox and following up opportunities with prospective clients

Building and developing relationships with new and existing clients

Monitoring live projects from a cost perspective

Supporting the Directors with business development

Helping develop the company's presence and brand, including its website and social media

Taking ownership of the role and identifying ways to improve estimating and commercial processes

    About You

Ideally, you'll have some previous estimating experience within construction, although my client is particularly interested in finding someone with the right attitude, initiative and ambition to grow with the business.

    You'll ideally have:

Around 1+ year of estimating experience within construction

The ability to read and interpret construction drawings

    Experience using CAD

A relevant degree or construction qualification would be advantageous

    Strong communication and relationship-building skills

A proactive and commercially minded approach

Good organisation and attention to detail

A reliable, hardworking and flexible attitude

An interest in sustainability and specialist construction

    What's on Offer?

£30,000-£50,000 salary depending on experience, alongside the opportunity to join a specialist business at an important stage of its growth.

You'll receive 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with potential access to a company bonus scheme.

More importantly, this is a role with genuine long-term potential. The company is family-run, ambitious and looking to grow, so someone joining now has the opportunity to grow with it rather than coming into an already rigid structure.

For someone who proves themselves and contributes to that growth, there is scope for increased responsibility, career progression and potentially profit share further down the line.

If you're an Estimator looking for somewhere you can have a real influence rather than simply producing quotes all day, this could be an excellent opportunity
