How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Head of Health and Safety Manager - Logistics – Wakefield, Yorkshire - £70,000 - £85,000 + Benefits Package  

    Principal People are excited to be working exclusively with a growing organisation who are looking to appoint a Head of HSE. 
     
    This is a fantastic opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environmental professional to take ownership of a multi-site role, driving both cultural change and continuous improvement across multiple locations. 
     
    The successful candidate will join a market leading business that is growing steadily and places health, safety and environmental at the heart of its operations. This is an on-site, operationally focused role with the opportunity to influence senior stakeholders. 

    The key duties include: 

    Developing and implementing the HSE, Facilities and Security strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives, legislation and company values.
    Providing expert advice and guidance to Senior Leaders on all HSE, Facilities and Security matters while driving a positive safety culture across multiple sites.
    Leading the development and maintenance of HSE policies, procedures and management systems, ensuring effective risk assessment, COSHH, SSOW and permit-to-work processes.
    Overseeing accident and near-miss investigations, audits, regulatory visits and corrective actions, ensuring robust root cause analysis and continual improvement.
    Leading Facilities Management across multiple locations, including preventative maintenance, statutory inspections, building infrastructure and equipment compliance.
    Managing contractors and suppliers, ensuring appropriate risk assessments, permits, compliance registers and performance management processes are in place.
    Developing and implementing the organisation's security strategy, including security risk assessments, access control, CCTV, incident response and site security procedures.
    Leading, coaching and developing the HSE, Facilities and Security teams, building capability through mentoring, training and succession planning.

    We would love to see CVs from people who have 

    A Level 6 Health and Safety qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
    Significant Health and Safety experience within a logistics, distribution, FMCG, manufacturing or warehouse-based retail environment.
    Proven experience operating within a multi-site operational environment.
    Previous management experience, with a track record of recently leading, coaching and developing people.
    Strong knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, risk management, audits and HSE management systems.
    Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate across multiple sites.
