How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Health & Safety Officer

    Location: Brighton (BN1 7GA)
    Sector: Public Sector
    Type: Temporary – 2–3 months initially
    Hours: 35 hours per week

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a public sector organisation on an initial 2–3 month temporary assignment.

    The successful candidate will provide professional health and safety advice across operational services, supporting managers with risk management, compliance, investigations and workplace improvements.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Provide advice on health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice.

    * Complete and review risk assessments and method statements.

    * Carry out inspections, audits and workplace observations.

    * Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and reported hazards.

    * Develop and deliver health & safety training and briefings.

    * Support managers with health & safety improvement plans.

    * Review policies, procedures and safety standards.

    * Monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.

    Requirements

    * NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

    * TechIOSH or relevant professional membership, or working towards.

    * Previous experience in a frontline/operational Health & Safety role.

    * Knowledge of HSG65, health & safety legislation and risk management.

    * Experience delivering training and conducting investigations.

    * Strong communication, influencing and report-writing skills.

    * Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

    * Able to travel between operational sites across Brighton & Hove.
