Welding Engineer

Our client is a leading manufacturer of technically complex equipment for the international oil and gas sector and we are supporting them to recruit an experienced Welding Engineer.They are looking for a welding specialist to provide technical support across welding production, quality, new product development and customer projects.

This is an influential, hands-on position for someone who enjoys solving welding challenges, developing robust procedures and working closely with production teams. You will act as a key source of welding expertise at the company’s West Lothian manufacturing facility, helping to ensure that critical products meet demanding quality and industry standards.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

* Developing and maintaining Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and welder qualification records

* Coordinating welding procedure qualification activities

* Translating technical standards and welding procedures into clear shop-floor instructions

* Supporting production teams with welding quality, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis

* Monitoring welding operations and helping to improve welding quality and consistency

* Preparing weld maps and other welding-related manufacturing documentation

* Providing technical support to Quality, Planning and commercial teams

* Training welders and welding operators in approved procedures, weld quality and safe working practices

* Supporting internal, customer and third-party audits

* Contributing welding expertise to new products, process development and customer proposals

* Liaising with customers, inspectors, third parties and welding specialists across the wider organisation

About you

You will have practical welding engineering experience gained within a coded, regulated or high-integrity manufacturing environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

* Experience developing and qualifying WPSs and PQRs

* Working knowledge of ASME IX and/or ISO 15614

* Knowledge of mechanical and metallurgical testing

* Experience supporting coded welding and non-destructive testing activities

* Familiarity with processes such as SAW, GMAW, GTAW, SMAW or PTA

* The ability to investigate welding problems and recommend practical solutions

* Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with welders, engineers, inspectors, customers and auditors

A degree, HNC/HND or diploma in metallurgy, materials or a related engineering discipline would be beneficial. IWE/EWE certification or an interest in working towards it would also be advantageous.

Experience within oil and gas equipment, pressure vessels, valves, piping, subsea equipment, heavy fabrication or another highly regulated engineering sector would transfer well.
