How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Excavator / Tractor operator

    Location: Ellon, Aberdeenshire

    Salary: Depending on experience

Our expertise covers a wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure works, including construction, tar and concrete surfacing, line marking, kerbing, drainage installations, winter maintenance, and large-scale grass cutting operations.

    We operate across Aberdeen and the surrounding shire, maintaining long-term contracts on critical infrastructure sites where quality, safety, and reliability are essential. Our portfolio includes work on schools, hospitals, airports, gas terminals, and power stations, reflecting the trust placed in us by major commercial and public sector clients.

    The Role:

    We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team in a varied and hands-on role. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of civil engineering activities, including:

    Surfacing (tar and concrete works)
    Drainage installation and maintenance
    Kerbing and slabbing
    General groundwork operationsWork will primarily take place across Aberdeen and the surrounding areas, with the majority of projects based on commercial and critical infrastructure sites.

    You will be responsible for operating a modern fleet of excavators ranging from 2.5 to 22 tonnes, including tiltrotator-equipped machines. The role also involves tractor operations, including cutting and maintaining over 2,500 miles of roadside verges annually.

    This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their workload and takes pride in working on diverse projects, rather than being confined to repetitive housing development sites.

    Lorry work available for candidates with a licence. Or we can help with a licence if keen.

    Candidate Requirements:

    To be successful in this role, you should:

    Have proven experience operating excavators, tiltrotators, and tractors (essential).
    Hold a full UK driving licence (essential).
    Possess strong practical knowledge of groundwork and civil engineering operations.
    Demonstrate the ability to work independently, think proactively, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
    Have a positive, can-do attitude and a strong work ethic.While up-to-date certification is beneficial, it is not essential, as full training and development can be provided to the right individual.
