How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Primary Cover Staff – Teachers & Teaching Assistants

    Location: Wakefield and surrounding areas
    Start Date: September 2026
    Contract: Flexible Supply / Day-to-Day / Short-Term Cover / Potential Long-Term
    Roles: Primary Teachers & Teaching Assistants – EYFS, KS1 & KS2
Pay: 90-220, dependent on role and experience

Are you a Primary Teacher or Teaching Assistant looking for flexible work across Wakefield this September?

We are recruiting Primary Cover Staff to join our growing supply team, supporting a large network of primary schools across Wakefield and the surrounding areas.

We are looking for both qualified Teachers and experienced Teaching Assistants to provide reliable classroom cover and support across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

Rather than being tied to one school, you'll have the opportunity to work across a variety of welcoming primary settings, covering planned and unplanned staff absences and providing additional classroom support where needed.

Whether you're looking for regular work throughout the week, a couple of days to fit around other commitments, or the flexibility of day-to-day supply, we'd love to hear from you.

    The Roles

Depending on your experience and the role, you may:

Deliver engaging lessons and activities across EYFS, KS1 or KS2

Support teachers and pupils throughout the school day

Follow lesson plans and resources provided by the school

Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required

Create and maintain a positive, supportive and well-managed classroom environment

Support pupils with varying abilities and learning needs

Adapt confidently to different schools, year groups and classroom routines

Build positive relationships with pupils and school staff

Provide continuity and consistency during staff absences

Help pupils remain engaged, focused and confident in their learning

    What We're Looking For

    We're keen to speak with:

Qualified Primary Teachers with QTS or an appropriate UK-recognised teaching qualification

Experienced Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants

ECTs looking to gain experience across different primary schools

Graduates with relevant classroom or education experience

Candidates with experience working across EYFS, KS1 or KS2

Individuals with strong classroom and behaviour management skills

Enthusiastic, reliable and adaptable education professionals

Staff who can quickly build positive relationships with pupils, teachers and school teams

Whether you're an experienced education professional or looking to build further experience within primary schools, we'd be interested in discussing the opportunities available.

Why Join Our Wakefield Cover Team?

With a large pool of primary schools requiring teachers and support staff from September, we can offer opportunities to suit a range of roles, availability and preferences.

    You'll benefit from:

Flexible work to fit around your availability

Opportunities across a wide range of Wakefield primary schools

    Teaching and Teaching Assistant opportunities

Work across EYFS, KS1 and KS2

    Day-to-day, short-term and potentially longer-term assignments

The chance to experience different schools before committing to a permanent role

Regular opportunities throughout the academic year

Support in finding placements that suit your experience and preferences
