How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: East Midlands / Nationwide
    Employment Type: Full Time

    Carnell is looking for a reliable and experienced HGV Operative to join our Technology & Infrastructure team, supporting highway and civil engineering projects across the UK. This role involves nationwide travel, working away from home, and occasional night and weekend working.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Drive and operate HGV vehicles in a safe and compliant manner.

    * Transport plant, materials, equipment and site resources to and from project locations.

    * Assist with on-site labouring and general operative duties when required.

    * Carry out daily vehicle checks and maintain accurate records.

    * Load and unload materials safely.

    * Follow site health, safety and environmental procedures.

    * Support the delivery of highway and infrastructure projects across the UK.

    Essential Requirements

    * Current HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) Licence.

    * Valid Driver CPC qualification.

    * CSCS Labourer Card (minimum requirement).

    * Experience operating HGV vehicles within construction, highways or civil engineering environments.

    * Good understanding of vehicle safety and compliance requirements.

    * Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.

    * Highways or National Highways experience.

    Desirable

    * HIAB qualification.

    * Cat & Genny.

    * First Aid.

    * Additional plant tickets.
