How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About you
If you’ve recently graduated and want to get your Quantity Surveying career moving quickly, this could be a really good opportunity.
I’m looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join a busy commercial team in Leeds. You could be coming straight out of university, ideally with a minimum 2:1 degree, or you might already have a year or two of Quantity Surveying experience and be looking for your next move.
What is important here is your attitude. This is a fast paced environment where you’ll be working across small shopfitting and retail projects, so you need to be able to work under pressure, take direction well and keep up when there are multiple things happening at once.
You’ll also need to drive and have access to your own vehicle as the role is office based in Leeds but will involve regular site visits.
    Your experience
You’ll ideally have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction subject, with a minimum 2:1 preferred for graduates.
If you’ve just graduated, you don’t need extensive commercial experience. What I’m looking for is someone who has a genuine interest in Quantity Surveying and is ready to learn in a busy commercial environment.
If you already have up to a couple of years’ experience as a Graduate or Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll also be considered.
Experience of shopfitting, retail fit out or commercial fit out would be useful, although it isn’t essential. What matters more is that you’re organised, comfortable working to deadlines and able to take instruction and get things done.
You’ll need to be confident with numbers, have good attention to detail and be someone who enjoys working at pace. This probably isn’t the right environment if you’re looking for a slow and steady graduate role where you can take your time.
What you will be doing with your experience
You’ll be working as part of the commercial team, supporting the Quantity Surveying function across a range of small shopfitting and retail projects.
You’ll gain experience across areas such as cost management, procurement, valuations, variations, subcontractor payments and commercial reporting, while developing your understanding of how projects are managed from a commercial perspective.
Because the projects are smaller and move quickly, you’ll get exposure to different stages of projects and will need to respond quickly when priorities change.
You’ll also attend site visits, giving you the opportunity to see the work you are managing commercially being delivered on site and build your understanding of the construction process.
For a graduate, this is a chance to get genuine hands on Quantity Surveying experience rather than spending your first couple of years doing purely administrative work. If you already have some experience, it gives you the opportunity to develop further within a fast moving retail and shopfitting environment.
The salary is around £30,000 per annum.
    About the business
You’ll be joining an established business working across shopfitting and retail projects, with a focus on delivering smaller schemes at pace.
The nature of the work means projects move quickly and there is always plenty going on, so you’ll need to enjoy a busy environment and be comfortable working to tight deadlines.
The role is based from the company’s Leeds office, with site visits required as part of the position. You’ll be working alongside an experienced team and will have the opportunity to develop your commercial and Quantity Surveying skills through exposure to live projects.
If you’re a graduate who wants to learn quickly, enjoys being busy and wants to build a career in Quantity Surveying, this is definitely one worth having a conversation about.
