How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Power Electronics Engineer
    Location: Rugeley
    WFH: Hybrid
    Term: 12 Months

    We are working with an innovative engineering organisation specialising in power-dense, high-reliability electronic solutions across a range of demanding applications. Due to continued project growth, they are looking for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join a small, highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a contractor who enjoys working on technically challenging projects, taking ownership of power electronics development and working closely with customers, suppliers and wider engineering teams.

    The Role

    As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will take responsibility for the design, development, testing and technical support of power electronic systems from initial concept through to production.

    You will provide specialist technical expertise across multiple projects, helping to develop efficient, reliable and cost-effective power conversion solutions that meet demanding customer, regulatory and operational requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead the design and development of power electronic systems from concept through to production.
    Provide technical expertise and input across multiple projects and programmes.
    Define system and subsystem requirements and ensure designs meet customer, regulatory and operational requirements.
    Provide technical guidance across analogue, digital and mixed-signal electronics.
    Support power electronics architecture and component selection.
    Perform circuit analysis, simulation, design reviews and technical investigations.
    Oversee schematic capture and provide technical direction for PCB layout and design.
    Ensure designs are optimised for performance, manufacturability, reliability and cost.
    Support verification, integration, qualification and production activities.
    Work closely with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
    Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to the development of technical capability within the team.
    Represent the organisation at technical reviews, customer meetings and programme discussions.
    Investigate and resolve design issues identified during development, manufacture and field operation.
    Lead root-cause investigations and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.Essential Skills & Experience

    HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
    Significant experience designing electronic systems within a high-reliability, safety-critical or regulated engineering environment.
    Strong understanding of power conversion topologies.
    Experience with magnetic component design and selection.
    Strong knowledge of analogue and digital control systems.
    Understanding of thermal design and thermal management principles.
    Strong knowledge of EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
    Proven analogue electronics design and circuit simulation experience.
    Experience leading technical activities and influencing engineering design decisions.
    Experience with communication protocols such as RS485, SPI, I²C, CAN or similar.
    Strong understanding of component selection, derating, reliability and component lifecycle considerations.
    Experience producing and reviewing schematics and technical documentation.
    Good understanding of PCB design principles, layout supervision and design-for-manufacture.
    Excellent communication skills with the ability to work confidently with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
    Self-motivated, collaborative and capable of taking ownership of technical delivery within a fast-paced engineering environment.Desirable Skills

    Digital circuit design experience.
    Wiring definition and harness design experience.
    Experience using Altium Designer.
    Previous experience working within defence, aerospace or another highly regulated industry.
    Experience working with high-integrity or safety-critical electronic systems.
