How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Design Engineer to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering major infrastructure and water sector projects across the UK. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will support the design and delivery of complex civil engineering solutions from concept through to construction and commissioning. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile infrastructure projects while developing your technical expertise within a collaborative and progressive environment.

    Key Responsibilities

Deliver civil engineering designs for water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects.
Prepare technical calculations, reports, specifications, drawings, and design documentation.
Develop detailed designs for pipelines, pumping stations, treatment facilities, drainage systems, and associated civil infrastructure.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, process, structural, and environmental specialists.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, client requirements, and health and safety legislation.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering, and constructability workshops.
Review contractor and supplier technical submissions.
Support project delivery by managing technical outputs, schedules, and quality requirements.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
Mentor and support graduate and junior engineers.
Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering best practice.

    Requirements

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng, BSc, MEng, or MSc).
Experience delivering civil engineering design projects within water, utilities, infrastructure, or related sectors.
Strong technical design and problem-solving skills.
Experience producing calculations, specifications, reports, and design deliverables.
Knowledge of relevant UK engineering standards and regulations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership is desirable.
Experience within regulated utility or water sector environments is advantageous.
Familiarity with design-and-build projects and NEC contracts is desirable.
Knowledge of AMP programmes and major infrastructure frameworks is beneficial.
Understanding of construction methodologies and site delivery practices is preferred.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected Tier 1 contractor delivering nationally significant infrastructure programmes. The role offers challenging projects, long-term career development, flexible working, and the chance to contribute to sustainable engineering solutions that create a lasting impact on communities and the environment
