How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Project Engineer)

    3-6 Month Contract | Inside IR35 (£300-£400 per day)

    Derby | Monday-Friday | Standard Day Shifts

    Working closely with both engineering and workshop teams, you will be responsible for capturing existing overhaul and repair activities, documenting best practice and developing structured engineering packs, work instructions and procedures that can be consistently followed across the business.

    Key Responsibilities

    Create detailed work instructions, repair sequences, routings and engineering procedures.
    Work alongside technicians and workshop staff to understand and document existing repair processes.
    Produce and maintain engineering packs for overhaul and maintenance activities.
    Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and new programme activities.
    Identify opportunities to improve workshop efficiency, quality and overall performance.
    Investigate technical issues and implement corrective actions where required.
    Develop training materials and supporting process documentation.
    Analyse workshop performance data and recommend process improvements.
    Support continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.
    Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, controlled and aligned with operational requirements.

    Essential Criteria

    Previous experience within the rolling stock, rail maintenance or rail manufacturing sector.
    Strong mechanical engineering background.
    Experience developing and documenting engineering processes, methods and procedures.
    Ability to create:

    Work instructions
    Engineering packs
    Repair procedures
    Method statements
    Technical documentation

    Experience working closely with technicians, fitters or workshop-based teams.
    Strong understanding of overhaul, maintenance and repair environments.
    Ability to gather information from practical engineering activities and convert it into documented processes.
    Degree qualified in Engineering preferred; however, HNC/HND qualified candidates will also be considered.

    Ideal Candidate Profile

    The successful candidate will have worked within a rolling stock overhaul, maintenance or manufacturing environment and will be comfortable spending time on the workshop floor with technicians.  highly organised, process-driven and able to create structured engineering documentation where little or no existing information exists is essential.

    This role would suit a candidate from a rolling stock engineering background who enjoys working directly with technicians on the shop floor and translating practical engineering activities into controlled documentation and processes
