How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Howard James Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a well-established, multi-site organisation with the appointment of an experienced Head of HR.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious HR professional to take ownership of the people strategy across a growing organisation, working closely with the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team to shape culture, develop talent and enhance the overall employee experience.

The successful candidate will play a key role in an organisation that is committed to developing its people and creating a positive, engaging workplace culture. This is a varied and influential position, supporting approximately 220 employees across multiple locations, with travel between sites forming part of the role.

    The Role

As Head of HR, you will be responsible for leading the HR function and providing trusted, commercially focused advice to senior leaders and managers across the organisation.

You will have the opportunity to influence and develop the wider people strategy, whilst also remaining hands-on across the full HR remit. From employee relations and recruitment through to policy development, training and organisational change, this role offers excellent variety and scope to make a genuine difference.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    *

Developing and implementing the HR strategy in line with business objectives and employment legislation.

    *

Providing senior-level HR advice and guidance across all areas of employee relations, including complex disciplinary, grievance and long-term sickness matters.

    *

Working with managers to improve recruitment, retention, employee engagement and the overall employee experience.

    *

Leading and developing the HR team, supporting their continued professional growth.

    *

Reviewing and updating HR policies and procedures in line with legislation and best practice.

    *

Producing and presenting HR data and analysis to senior management, including turnover, salary reviews and people trends.

    *

Delivering HR training and coaching to managers.

    *

Supporting organisational change, restructuring and TUPE where required.

    *

Working closely with Payroll and Finance regarding employee benefits and remuneration.

    *

Acting as a trusted HR partner to the Senior Leadership Team and wider management population.

    About You

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who is confident operating at senior level and can combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach.

You will ideally be CIPD Level 7 qualified and have significant experience working within a busy HR environment, ideally at Senior HR Manager, HR Business Partner or Head of HR level.

You will have strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and proven experience managing complex employee relations matters. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be required to coach managers, influence senior stakeholders and confidently manage challenging conversations.

Experience of leading or developing an HR team would be advantageous, as would previous experience of supporting business restructures and TUPE.

The successful candidate will be commercially minded, approachable and resilient, with the ability to work autonomously whilst also being a strong team player. A full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points is required due to the multi-site nature of the role.
