How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Intermediate Quantity Surveyor – Groundworks

    Location: Gloucester
    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
    Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

    An established groundworks contractor based in Gloucester is looking to recruit an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with a few years’ experience who is looking to develop their career within a busy contractor working across groundworks, civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

    The Role

    Working alongside the commercial and operational teams, you will be responsible for the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account.

    Typical duties will include:

    * Preparing and submitting valuations

    * Managing subcontractor accounts

    * Procurement of subcontractors and materials

    * Measuring works and preparing cost reports

    * Pricing and agreeing variations

    * Monitoring project costs against budgets

    * Preparing monthly commercial reports

    * Supporting cash flow and forecasting

    * Managing applications for payment

    * Assisting with contract administration

    * Attending site and commercial meetings

    * Working closely with Contracts Managers, Site Managers and clients

    * Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts

    The Candidate

    Applicants should have previous Quantity Surveying experience within groundworks, civil engineering or a related construction environment.

    You should have:

    * Previous experience working as an Assistant or Intermediate Quantity Surveyor

    * Experience of groundworks and/or civil engineering projects

    * Good commercial awareness

    * Experience with valuations, variations and subcontractor accounts

    * Good numerical and analytical skills

    * Strong communication and negotiation skills

    * The ability to manage your own workload and priorities

    * A relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification would be advantageous

    Experience of groundworks, drainage, foundations, roads, infrastructure, earthworks or reinforced concrete would be particularly relevant.

    The Opportunity

    This position would suit an Assistant QS ready to step up or an established Intermediate Quantity Surveyor looking to join a growing groundworks contractor.

    You will work alongside experienced commercial professionals while being given increasing responsibility for your own projects and accounts.
