How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Principal Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear 

    About the Company

    Our client is a leading engineering and project delivery organisation operating across highly regulated sectors including nuclear, energy, water and infrastructure. They deliver complex engineering solutions for major UK programmes and are continuing to expand their nuclear capability.

    The Role

    An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of major nuclear projects, specialising in Nuclear Mechanical Handling. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, manage engineering resources, oversee design delivery and support the development of junior engineers.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead mechanical engineering design activities across the project lifecycle.
    Manage technical interfaces and multidisciplinary design teams.
    Review, check and approve engineering deliverables.
    Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes and standards.
    Support project reporting, risk management and resource planning.
    Mentor and develop junior engineers.

    Requirements

    Typically 12+ years' mechanical engineering experience.
    SQEP within the nuclear sector.
    Extensive experience in Nuclear Mechanical Handling.
    Strong understanding of UK regulatory requirements including CDM, PESR, Machinery Safety Regulations and ATEX.
    Experience producing and reviewing:

    Design Justification Reports
    Mechanical Handling Diagrams
    Design Proposal Drawings
    Plant & Building Layouts
    Equipment Specifications & Datasheets
    Single and Multi-Discipline Design Reviews

    Desirable

    Stress analysis experience.
    Site/construction environment experience.
    Supply chain management experience.
    Knowledge of HVAC, rotating equipment, process plant or lifting equipment
