How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Freelance Site Engineer - Marine Civil Engineering
    Location: Newhaven, East Sussex
    Contract: Freelance - 6 Month Rolling Contract
    Rate: £350 per day (CIS)
    Shift times: 9:30 - 18:30
     
    We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Site Engineer to support the delivery of marine civil engineering works on a long-term project in Newhaven. This is a freelance opportunity offering an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for ongoing work.
    The role would suit a Site Engineer with a strong background in civil engineering, particularly within marine, coastal, waterfront, or heavy infrastructure projects, who is confident working on site and supporting the delivery of works safely, accurately, and in accordance with project requirements.
     
    Key Responsibilities
    ·Provide engineering support across the day-to-day delivery of marine and civil engineering works.
    ·Set out and survey works in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
    ·Carry out site measurements, levels, checks, and inspections.
    ·Ensure works are constructed to the correct specification, tolerances, and quality standards.
    ·Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction information.
    ·Liaise with Site Management, subcontractors, design teams, and client representatives to resolve engineering queries.
    ·Monitor progress and provide accurate updates on completed works.
    ·Maintain accurate site records, including site diaries, inspection records, quality documentation, and as-built information.
    ·Assist with the preparation and review of inspection and test plans, quality documentation, and handover information.
    ·Identify and raise technical issues, discrepancies, and potential design or construction problems.
    ·Support the implementation of health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements on site.
    ·Assist with temporary works, permits, method statements, risk assessments, and other project documentation where required.
    ·Work closely with the Site Agent and Project Manager to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with the programme.
    ·Provide engineering and progress information to support commercial and project teams.
     
    Requirements
    ·Previous experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering.
    ·Experience on marine, coastal, waterfront, highways, or heavy infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
    ·Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, setting out, surveying, and site engineering principles.
    ·Good understanding of health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
    ·Ability to accurately maintain site records and quality documentation.
    ·Strong communication and organisational skills.
    ·Writing ITP's and RAMS
    ·Ability to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors, designers, and client representatives.
    ·Experience using surveying equipment and relevant engineering software is desirable.
    ·Valid CSCS Card (essential).
    ·SMSTS or SSSTS (preferred).
    ·First Aid at Work (desirable).
    ·Full UK Driving Licence.
