How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A well-established multi-million pound civils contractor is currently looking to recruit an experienced Freelance Site Agent to join their team on a major highways and infrastructure scheme in the Midlands.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Agent with a strong background in highways, drainage and civil engineering, looking to work on a varied programme of infrastructure improvements.

    The Role

    As Site Agent, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of a number of highways and civils work packages, managing site operations from planning through to completion.

    The works will include highway upgrades, road widenings, junction improvements, drainage installations and Section 278 (S278) works, with the successful candidate working closely with the Project Manager, engineers, subcontractors and client representatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    - Managing day-to-day site operations and ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and to specification
    - Supervising highways and civils construction activities
    - Managing road widening and highway improvement works
    - Overseeing S278 works and junction upgrades
    - Managing drainage installations, including surface water drainage, gullies, carrier drains and associated connections
    - Coordinating subcontractors, labour and plant
    - Working closely with Site Engineers and ensuring accurate setting out and construction information
    - Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with RAMS, ITPs and project specifications
    - Monitoring progress against programme and reporting to the Project Manager
    - Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance
    - Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and other project stakeholders
    - Supporting the commercial and planning teams where required
    - Ensuring quality documentation, records and as-built information are maintained

    Experience Required:

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Site Agent / Site Manager / Sub Agent within a highways or civil engineering environment.

    You should have a strong understanding of:

    - Highways construction and upgrades
    - Road widening schemes
    - S278 / Section 278 works
    - Junction improvements
    - Drainage and associated infrastructure
    - Earthworks and general civils
    - Managing subcontractors and site teams
    - RAMS, ITPs and QA processes
    - Programme and progress management
    - Working alongside Tier 1 or established civil engineering contractors

    A relevant CSCS qualification and SMSTS are expected, with additional highways qualifications being advantageous
