How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Why join Rolls-Royce?

At Rolls-Royce we are proud to be a business that has truly helped to shape the modern world and are committed to always being a force for progress; powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

By joining Rolls-Royce, you'll have the opportunity to work on world-class solutions, supported by a culture that believes individuality is our greatest strength, and all perspectives, experiences and backgrounds help us innovate and enable our high-performance culture.

We currently have exciting opportunities for talented and enthusiastic Materials Engineers working in both our Materials Applications and Capability Acquisition teams. The roles are based in Bristol and will primarily support the Defence engine projects.

The Materials Applications team is responsible for delivering design, development, manufacturing, testing and in-service Materials support to the Defence engine projects. The Materials Applications engineer role provides the opportunity to gain experience of the materials, processes, components and products produced by Rolls-Royce and its suppliers as well as developing key skills and competencies for further personal development.

The Capability Acquisition team is responsible for developing cutting-edge materials technologies for the next generation of Rolls-Royce products. You will join a dynamic global Materials team and work in an environment that will allow you growth in developing your depth as a materials engineer and breadth through engagement and collaboration with other engineering disciplines across Rolls-Royce. Externally to Rolls-Royce you will manage effective working relationships with our suppliers, supply chain partners and University Technology Centres.

    What you will be doing:

    Materials Applications:
To provide technical and expert materials advice across the Defence Bristol programmes

Support design of test programmes and analysis of test programme data

Investigate engineering development, production manufacturing and in-service issues using a structured analytical approach and presenting findings clearly and authoritatively

    Participate in continuous improvement projects

    Capability Acquisition:
Providing technical materials advice with a focus on new design and new technology development.

Leading technologies through the TRL journey including novel materials, manufacturing processes, models and analysis methods.

Evaluate the effects of manufacturing processes on material performance.

Support design of test programmes, analysis of test data and generating databases for supporting future product designs.

Developing, writing, and maintaining materials and process specifications.

    Position qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Materials Science/Engineering or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.

An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to build good working relationships across the business.

    Preferred requirements:
Knowledge of the gas turbine and its components

To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence business, an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MOD and Government body approved cases, a dual national.

Our vision is to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that shaped our history continues into our future. Our multi-year transformation programme aims to turn Rolls-Royce into a high-performing, competitive, resilient and growing company. Join us, and it can be your future vision too.

Rolls-Royce are committed to being a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace where individuality is valued, diverse perspectives fuel innovation, and everyone can thrive.

As part of our selection process, candidates in certain locations may be asked to complete an online assessment, which can include cognitive and behavioural aptitude testing relevant to the role. If required, full instructions for the next steps will be provided.
