Role Overview:
The Health and Safety Advisor reports directly to the Health and Safety Manager to help ensure consistency and compliance across Health and Safety Management across the business. The successful candidate will provide health and safety support, advice and training to the business.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities. Duties will include but not be limited to the following:
- Provide guidance in all Health & Safety-related matters to staff throughout all areas of the business.
- Ensure Health & Safety advice to all projects regarding BW policies and procedures.
- Work with the Health & Safety Manager and the Health and Safety Director, providing guidance and updates in order that best practice is adopted and adhered to on all company sites.
- Assist as a point of contact for Health & Safety related enquiries on the project.
- Assisting the Health & Safety Manager in maintaining all company Health & Safety-related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation, ensure regular monitoring and review (annually at a minimum) with updates as and when required.
- Ensure training and development of the project teams is up to date and relevant.
- Carry out regular Health & Safety audits and inspections to ensure working practices are maintained, auditing paperwork and procedures via the use of an internal scoring matrix to track and monitor consistency.
- Assist with investigations whenever an accident or incident may occur ensuring that accurate reporting and monitoring of health and safety performance records is maintained, and lessons learnt to ensure repeat occurrences are minimised.
- Ensure that the health, safety and welfare of all employees, contractors and operatives is safeguarded through regular monitoring, visits and dialogue.
- Help maintain a positive safety culture by encouraging good practicing and challenging unsafe behaviour.
- Liaise with the HSE and other local enforcement agencies as necessary attending workshops and events to maintain awareness of current recommendations and focus areas.
- Through regular visits to sites, encourage the use of company Health & Safety initiatives amongst sub-contractors and operatives promoting a positive safety culture.
- Keep up to date with industry standards and complete all necessary training as identified by the Head of Health & Safety.
- Act as a point of contact with the client, arranging and attending regular meetings.
- Chair health and safety meetings on site.
- Ensure active participant of the HSLT.
- Support the site team as required.
Requirements:
- NEBOSH construction qualification is essential.
- 5 years experience in construction as a minimum.
- Practical understanding of CDM 2015.
- Good communication, organisation and influencing skills.
- Able to work proactively, independently and confidently.
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills to resolve daily operational and safety challenges.
