How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SUB AGENT – HIGHWAYS – CUMBRIA – CONTRACT ROLE (Inside IR35)

    Major Highways Infrastructure Project

    Sub Agent currently required to join a major highways scheme in Cumbria, delivering complex civil engineering works that will improve connectivity, enhance safety and provide a lasting legacy for the region.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading Tier 1 contractor and take ownership of key sections of work, managing delivery teams, subcontractors, quality assurance processes and design interfaces from inception through to completion.

    The Role

    Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, timely and efficient delivery of allocated sections of the project, ensuring all works are completed to the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Managing the day-to-day delivery of highways and civil engineering works.

    Leading Site Engineers, Section Engineers and operational teams.

    Coordinating and managing subcontractors to ensure performance against programme, quality and safety requirements.

    Driving quality assurance processes including ITPs, inspections, audits and record keeping.

    Managing non-conformances and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

    Reviewing construction drawings and design information.

    Leading design management activities and coordinating with design consultants and temporary works designers.

    Raising and managing RFIs, technical queries and design change requests.

    Ensuring compliance with NEC contract requirements and project specifications.

    Supporting programme management and short-term planning activities.

    Monitoring progress, productivity and resource allocation.

    Managing commercial awareness on site including cost control and reporting.

    Maintaining strong relationships with the client, stakeholders and supply chain partners.

    Driving a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with all HSEQ requirements.

    Requirements

    Previous experience as a Sub Agent on major highways or infrastructure projects.

    Strong background in civil engineering and heavy infrastructure works.

    Experience managing subcontractors and multiple work packages.

    Proven knowledge of quality assurance processes and documentation.

    Design management experience, including coordination of temporary and permanent works designs.

    Experience producing and reviewing RAMS, ITPs and construction documentation.

    Strong understanding of NEC contracts.

    Excellent leadership and communication skills.

    Ability to manage programme, cost, quality and safety objectives simultaneously.

    Qualifications

    Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

    SMSTS.

    CSCS Card.

    Temporary Works Coordinator (desirable).

    IOSH or NEBOSH (desirable).
