How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Job Title: Welding Field Engineer - Surveillance

    Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset
    Position: Contract
    Duration: Ongoing (December to December)
Rate: Up to £350/day PAYE + 36 days annual leave or up to £475.72/day Umbrella

Play Your Part in Building the Future of UK Energy

Hinkley Point C is one of Europe's largest and most complex infrastructure projects - a multi-billion-pound nuclear new build that will provide low-carbon electricity to around six million UK homes.

We are looking for an experienced Welding & NDT Field Engineer to join the Construction Surveillance team at Hinkley Point C.

For this position, we're particularly interested in people who understand welding from both sides of the process.

You'll need to be a CSWIP 3.2 qualified Welding Inspector with strong NDT knowledge and experience, but we're not looking for someone whose experience has been limited to inspection.

You must have previous hands-on welding experience.

Whether you started your career as a coded welder, pipe welder or fabricator/welder before progressing into inspection, NDT or quality surveillance, we're looking for someone who genuinely understands how welding is performed in the field.

    The Role

As a Field Engineer, you'll provide independent construction and quality surveillance across welding, fabrication and mechanical installation activities on the Hinkley Point C site.

You'll form part of the site Construction Surveillance team, supporting the delivery of NEC Supervisor duties and ensuring works are completed in accordance with contractual, engineering and quality requirements.

This is a field-based position requiring someone comfortable getting out onto site, assessing the work being performed and challenging quality issues where necessary.

You'll undertake continuous, notified and planned surveillance of contractor activities, identifying potential problems before they impact construction and ensuring appropriate inspection records are in place before works progress.

    What You'll Be Doing

    Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out welding, fabrication and NDT surveillance across site.
Monitoring contractor activities against approved Quality Control Plans and inspection requirements.
Verifying works are constructed in accordance with the contract, drawings and applicable standards.
Reviewing welding activities, processes and workmanship in the field.
Witnessing and reviewing NDT activities including UT, MT/MPI and PT/DPI.
Reviewing Quality Inspection Records before works are covered or progressed.
Identifying potential non-conformances and supporting the NCR process.
Proactively identifying quality issues and supporting appropriate corrective or mitigating action.
Working closely with construction, engineering, quality and contractor teams.
Maintaining accurate and concise surveillance records.
Reviewing contractor performance against authorised Quality Control Plans.
Ensuring engineering or design decisions identified in the field are progressed through the appropriate formal process.
Supporting the continued development of a strong Nuclear Safety and Quality Culture across the project.

    Essential Requirements

    CSWIP 3.2 Welding Inspector qualification.
Previous hands-on welding experience - this is a key requirement for the position.
Strong practical understanding of welding processes, techniques, defects and acceptance requirements.
Demonstrable experience of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
Experience with NDT techniques including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT/MPI) and/or Penetrant Testing (PT/DPI).
Significant welding inspection, fabrication inspection or quality surveillance experience.
Experience working within large-scale construction, engineering or industrial environments.
Ability to independently carry out welding and NDT surveillance in the field.
Strong understanding of construction drawings, inspection requirements, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records.
Ability to identify quality issues and challenge contractor activities appropriately.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Confident working with digital systems and electronic inspection/surveillance records

    Desirable Experience

Experience within highly regulated or safety-critical sectors would be particularly valuable, including:

    Nuclear
    Oil & Gas
    Petrochemical
    Power Generation
    Energy from Waste
    Chemical Processing
    Pharmaceutical
Heavy Industrial ConstructionExperience inspecting piping, pressure systems, mechanical equipment or safety-critical fabrication would also be highly advantageous.
