How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Company

Our client is a leading global technology-driven supply chain, logistics, and e-commerce platform, operating across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia.

The company is listed on NASDAQ and ranked among the Fortune Global 500, serving hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. As part of its long-term international growth strategy, the business continues to make significant investments across Europe and is rapidly expanding its e-commerce, retail, marketplace, and supply chain capabilities across the region.

Today, the company has established teams across the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, and other European markets, with ongoing expansion plans across the region.

    The Opportunity

This is a newly created and highly visible legal and regulatory position supporting the continued development of the company’s UK and European online marketplace.

As the marketplace expands, the successful candidate will advise on how third-party sellers join and operate on the platform, how the business fulfils its obligations to consumers and regulators, and how legal and regulatory requirements are embedded into the platform’s day-to-day operations.

The role will cover a broad range of matters, including marketplace policies, seller terms, the EU Digital Services Act, consumer protection, product safety, platform liability, seller enforcement, notice-and-takedown processes, and regulatory engagement.

As a senior individual contributor, the successful candidate will take meaningful ownership of their area while working closely with legal, compliance, marketplace, product, technology, privacy, intellectual property, brand protection, commercial, and operational stakeholders.

This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the legal and regulatory framework of a fast-growing European marketplace and contribute directly to the international expansion of a major global e-commerce business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Own, review, and continue to develop marketplace policies, seller terms and conditions, platform rules, and seller-facing legal documentation as the business and regulatory environment evolve.
    • Advise the marketplace business on the design and implementation of seller onboarding, seller verification, listing governance, seller conduct, and platform enforcement processes.
    • Guide the business on its obligations under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA) and other UK and EU laws applicable to online marketplaces and digital platforms.
    • Advise on consumer protection, product safety, platform liability, transparency, pricing, advertising, and unfair commercial practices as they apply to marketplace operations.
    • Assess the platform’s legal position in relation to third-party sellers, product listings, non-compliant goods, misleading content, and seller misconduct.
    • Advise on the legal basis and appropriate processes for listing removal, account restrictions, seller suspension, delisting, and other enforcement actions.
    • Develop and oversee effective notice-and-action, notice-and-takedown, counter-notice, complaint-handling, and escalation procedures.
    • Monitor seller and listing enforcement activity, identify recurring risks, and ensure that cases are resolved consistently and in line with applicable legal requirements.
    • Act as a key legal contact for regulators, consumer authorities, market-surveillance bodies, and other external stakeholders, advising the business on regulatory inquiries, investigations, enforcement risk, and remediation.
    • Work closely with marketplace, product, engineering, technology, commercial, and operational teams to embed legal and regulatory requirements into platform features, processes, policies, and controls.
    • Partner with Privacy, IP & Brand Protection, Product Compliance, Trust & Safety, and Customer Service teams to ensure that marketplace issues are addressed across the wider legal and compliance framework.
    • Support the development of practical internal guidance, templates, playbooks, training, and scalable legal processes for marketplace teams.
    • Monitor developments across the UK and EU digital-regulation landscape, including emerging marketplace, consumer, product-safety, and platform-liability requirements.
    • Translate complex and evolving regulation into clear, commercially practical advice for senior leadership and business stakeholders.
    • Support the future development of a scalable marketplace legal framework that can be extended across additional European countries.

    Ideal Background

    • A qualified solicitor or lawyer in England and Wales or an equivalent EU jurisdiction; dual qualification would be an advantage.
    • Approximately 6–12 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant proportion gained in e-commerce, online marketplaces, digital platforms, retail, technology, or consumer-facing businesses.
    • A background combining legal or regulatory work at a recognised law firm with relevant in-house experience at a scaled marketplace, e-commerce, retail, or technology company is strongly preferred.
    • Strong working knowledge of consumer law, consumer protection, product safety, platform liability, and the EU Digital Services Act.
    • Practical experience advising an online platform or marketplace on seller terms, marketplace policies, seller onboarding, third-party listings, pricing, promotions, or regulatory compliance.
    • Experience handling notice-and-takedown, seller enforcement, listing removal, platform complaints, regulatory inquiries, or non-compliant seller activity would be highly valuable.
    • Experience working directly with product, technology, engineering, marketplace, commercial, trust and safety, or operational teams.
    • Able to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable business processes and controls.
    • Comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor, taking ownership of complex matters without relying on direct line-management authority.
    • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance legal risk, consumer trust, regulatory expectations, and business growth.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-moving international environment where policies, processes, and governance frameworks are still developing.
    • Experience supporting multiple European jurisdictions and working with regulators, external counsel, and senior internal stakeholders.
    • Fluency in English is essential. Fluency in a second European language—particularly German, French, Dutch, Spanish, or Portuguese—would be an advantage.

    Why Consider This Opportunity

    • Join a NASDAQ-listed Fortune Global 500 organisation during a major phase of European expansion.
    • Help shape the legal and regulatory framework for a rapidly growing UK and European online marketplace.
    • Take meaningful ownership of marketplace governance, seller regulation, consumer protection, product safety, and DSA compliance.
    • Build practical and scalable frameworks rather than simply maintaining an established legal model.
    • Work closely with senior legal, compliance, product, commercial, technology, and business leadership across Europe and global headquarters.
    • Play a central role in enabling the responsible growth of a major international e-commerce platform.
    • Gain exposure to some of the most important and rapidly evolving areas of UK and EU digital-platform regulation.
    • Contribute to a framework with the potential to support future marketplace expansion across additional European countries.
