How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Technical Author

    Location: Edinburgh, Scotland

    Working arrangement: Hybrid

    Reporting to: Practice Manager


    Akkodis is seeking an experienced Technical Author to join our growing engineering team in Edinburgh. You will create, manage and deliver high-quality technical documentation for complex defence and engineering programmes.


    The Role

    You will:

    • Develop, edit and publish technical manuals, data modules, test reports, qualification evidence and supporting documentation.
    • Use Teamcenter Unified (TCU) to manage document structures, metadata, version control and configuration baselines.
    • Maintain accurate and consistent documentation across multiple product variants and development phases.
    • Work closely with engineering, design, systems and support teams to capture and communicate complex technical information.
    • Support document change management and configuration control through TCU workflows.
    • Ensure deliverables meet contractual requirements, programme schedules and quality standards.
    • Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve publication queries.
    • Support improvements and automation across technical publishing processes.


    Required Experience

    • Proven Technical Author or Technical Publisher experience within defence, aerospace, radar or another complex engineering environment.
    • Hands-on experience using Teamcenter Unified for PLM and technical publishing.
    • Experience using DOORS for requirements updates and compliance assessments.
    • Knowledge of relevant defence publication standards, including DEF STAN 00-600 and MIL-STD-40051.
    • Experience in configuration management, document control and versioning within PLM systems.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and XML/SGML editing tools.


    Required Skills

    • Excellent technical writing and editing skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and document accuracy.
    • Ability to translate complex engineering information into clear technical documentation.
    • Confidence working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders.


    Education

    A bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
