How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Health & Safety Advisor - SGN Framework

We are innovative. That's why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to solve problems, drive continuous improvement, and ensure work is delivered safely and efficiently.

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Health & Safety Advisor to join our Energy team, supporting the delivery of works across the SGN framework.

In this role, you will work closely with operational teams, framework managers and SGN stakeholders to embed a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with SGN standards, and support the safe delivery of gas infrastructure projects. You will be a visible presence across the framework, providing practical advice, challenge and support to help teams achieve excellent health and safety performance.

We need your expertise to inspire and guide our operational teams to deliver work consistently using best-in-class health, safety and wellbeing practices. You will take the time to understand operational challenges faced on site and translate SGN requirements into practical, workable solutions that improve safety outcomes and operational performance.

    Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of the SGN framework by promoting a positive health and safety culture across operational teams.
Ensure compliance with SGN health, safety and environmental requirements, contractual obligations and industry best practice.
Advise managers and supervisors on framework-specific safety objectives, performance measures and improvement plans.
Support and lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.
Carry out regular site inspections, audits and assurance activities to verify compliance with SGN standards and company procedures.
Participate in SGN-led audits, reviews and safety forums, acting as a key point of contact for health and safety matters.
Conduct ABC (Attitude, Behaviour and Culture) tours and behavioural safety engagements to drive positive workforce behaviours.
Identify trends, recurring issues and opportunities for continuous improvement across the framework.
Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work, ensuring they reflect both operational requirements and SGN expectations.
Contribute to framework mobilisations, improvement initiatives and lessons learned activities.
Support the implementation and communication of new legislation, SGN requirements and industry best practice.
Develop engaging health and safety communications, campaigns and toolbox talks that resonate with operational teams.
Support tender submissions, framework renewals and business improvement activities where health and safety input is required.

We'd Love to Hear From You If You Can Demonstrate
NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
NVQ Level 5/6 in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation and its application within utilities or infrastructure environments.
Previous experience working within gas, utilities, energy or civil engineering frameworks, ideally supporting SGN or similar regulated clients.
Proven experience conducting inspections, audits and assurance activities within operational environments.
The ability to build credible relationships with operational teams, management and client representatives.
Strong investigation skills and experience identifying effective corrective and preventative actions.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
A proactive and innovative approach to problem solving, continuous improvement and behavioural safety.
    Desirable
Experience working directly on SGN projects or frameworks.
Knowledge of gas distribution network activities and associated risks.
Lead Auditor qualification or experience supporting management system audits.
Experience of delivering behavioural safety initiatives and workforce engagement programmes
