How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SENIOR MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

    Manchester / Northwest
    Permanent
Excellent salary, car or car allowance, bonus and comprehensive benefits

Mech Electrics is working exclusively with a long-standing client to appoint two Senior Mechanical Project Engineers to its Northwest operation.

We have worked with this business for more than 15 years and know the quality of its people, projects and technical leadership extremely well.

It is an established MEP contractor with an excellent regional reputation and a depth of engineering expertise that sets it apart from much of the market. Its project teams are supported by experienced design, commercial, planning, digital-engineering and operational professionals, alongside significant offsite-manufacturing capability.

These are genuine engineering appointments. The successful people will be expected to understand the design, challenge it where necessary and develop coordinated, buildable solutions—not simply monitor mechanical subcontractors and report progress.

    THE ROLE

You will take technical and delivery responsibility for substantial mechanical packages, working from pre-construction and design development through procurement, installation, commissioning and final handover.

Depending upon the project and its stage, your responsibilities will include:

    • Reviewing employer’s requirements, specifications, tender information and consultant designs
    • Developing mechanical designs into coordinated and practical construction solutions
    • Identifying design omissions, technical risk, buildability concerns and opportunities to improve the installation
    • Producing and managing technical submittals, RFIs, design trackers, procurement schedules and commissioning information
    • Reviewing calculations, equipment selections, drawings, schedules and specialist-subcontractor proposals
    • Coordinating mechanical services with electrical systems, architecture, structure and other project interfaces
    • Working closely with consultants, clients, manufacturers, specialist subcontractors and the wider construction team
    • Supporting the procurement of major plant and specialist mechanical packages
    • Ensuring installations meet the design intent, specification, statutory requirements and current standards
    • Supporting programme development and ensuring design, procurement, manufacture and installation are properly sequenced
    • Monitoring installation standards and resolving technical or coordination issues on site
    • Planning and overseeing pressure testing, flushing, water treatment, balancing, commissioning and witnessing
    • Supporting the production of operating information, demonstrations and final handover documentation
    • Contributing to design reviews, progress meetings and client presentations
    • Supporting and developing junior engineers within the project team

    TECHNICAL DELIVERY

The business has an excellent record of combining engineering, digital coordination and offsite manufacture to improve quality and project delivery.

You will be encouraged to consider:

    • DfMA and the early design of services for offsite manufacture
    • Modular risers, corridor modules, prefabricated pipework, packaged plant and multi-service assemblies
    • Standardisation and repeatability across large or multi-building projects
    • Plantroom and riser strategy, access, maintainability and replacement requirements
    • Spatial coordination and the practical sequence in which systems will be assembled and installed
    • Low-carbon heating and cooling solutions, including heat pumps and energy-efficient plant
    • Controls integration and the operational performance of completed systems
    • Commissioning strategy from the earliest stages of design
    • The effect of engineering decisions on programme, cost, quality and site productivity

Good ideas are expected to travel from the drawing and coordination model into manufacture and installation. Engineers therefore have a real opportunity to shape the finished project.

    ABOUT YOU

We are interested in speaking with Mechanical Project Engineers and Senior Mechanical Project Engineers who have developed their careers with an MEP or building-services contractor.

    You are likely to have:

    • Experience delivering sizeable mechanical packages on major construction projects
    • A strong understanding of mechanical building-services design and installation
    • Experience of heating, cooling, ventilation and public-health systems
    • The ability to review technical information and develop it into a coordinated construction solution
    • Experience working through design development, procurement, installation and commissioning
    • Confidence working with clients, consultants, manufacturers, subcontractors and site teams
    • A practical understanding of buildability, sequencing, procurement and commercial risk
    • The ability to challenge information constructively and take ownership of technical issues
    • An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or building services

Experience within major commercial, residential, education, healthcare, justice, industrial or similarly complex developments would all be relevant.

You do not need experience in every sector or system listed. We are more interested in the scale and complexity of the projects you have delivered, the quality of your engineering judgement and your ability to accept responsibility.

    WHY CONSIDER IT?

This is an opportunity to join a business in which engineering remains central to project delivery.

    You will benefit from:

    • A strong and secured Northwest project pipeline
    • Technically interesting projects delivered by experienced MEP teams
    • Access to in-house design, digital-engineering and offsite-manufacturing capability
    • High-quality technical and operational leadership
    • Involvement from design and pre-construction through to commissioning and handover
    • The freedom to influence design, buildability and the construction strategy
    • A culture that values capable engineers and supports their development
    • A clear route into senior engineering, project management or wider operational leadership
    • An excellent salary and benefits package, including car or allowance, bonus, private healthcare and pension

This is a permanent position. Projects will principally be located across Manchester and the wider Northwest.
