How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SENIOR ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

    Manchester / Northwest
    Permanent
Excellent salary, car or car allowance and comprehensive benefits

Mech Electrics is working exclusively with a long-standing client to appoint a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to its Northwest operation.

We have recruited for this business for more than 15 years. It has one of the strongest technical reputations in the UK building-services market and employs some exceptionally capable engineers, project managers, commercial professionals and operational leaders.

These appointments are part of the continued development of its regional engineering capability. They are not maintenance positions, facilities-management roles or opportunities to supervise a collection of subcontractors from a distance.

The successful engineers will take genuine technical and delivery responsibility for major electrical packages, working from the development of the design and construction strategy through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.

    THE ROLE

You will work as part of an experienced MEP project team, taking responsibility for the technical coordination and successful delivery of electrical building services on substantial, complex projects across the Northwest.

Depending upon the project and its stage, your responsibilities will include:

    • Reviewing employer’s requirements, specifications, tender information and consultant designs
    • Developing the electrical design into a coordinated, buildable and commercially viable installation
    • Identifying technical risk, design gaps and buildability issues before they reach site
    • Producing and managing technical submittals, RFIs, design trackers, procurement schedules and commissioning information
    • Working closely with consultants, clients, specialist subcontractors, suppliers and the wider construction team
    • Coordinating electrical services with mechanical systems, architectural information, structure and other project interfaces
    • Supporting the procurement of major electrical equipment and specialist packages
    • Reviewing drawings, calculations, equipment selections and subcontractor proposals
    • Ensuring installations comply with the agreed design, specification, statutory requirements and current standards
    • Supporting programme development and ensuring design, procurement and installation activities are properly sequenced
    • Monitoring installation quality and resolving technical and coordination issues on site
    • Planning and overseeing testing, commissioning, witnessing and the production of handover information
    • Contributing to progress meetings, design reviews and client presentations
    • Supporting and developing less-experienced engineers within the project team

    TECHNICAL DELIVERY

This business is particularly strong in design development, digital coordination and the conversion of engineering information into efficient construction solutions.

You will be expected to think beyond a conventional installation and consider:

    • DfMA and the early integration of offsite-manufactured assemblies
    • Modular containment, service modules, packaged plant and prefabricated solutions
    • Spatial coordination and the practical assembly, transportation and installation of manufactured components
    • Standardisation and repeatability across large or multi-building developments
    • Plant access, maintainability, commissioning and replacement strategies
    • Energy efficiency, intelligent controls and the operational performance of the completed building
    • The relationship between technical decisions, programme, cost and site productivity

This is an environment in which engineers are encouraged to challenge information, improve the proposed solution and influence how the project is delivered.

    ABOUT YOU

We are interested in speaking with Electrical Project Engineers and Senior Electrical Project Engineers who have developed their careers with an MEP or building-services contractor.

    You are likely to have:

    • Experience delivering sizeable electrical packages on major construction projects
    • A strong understanding of electrical building-services design and installation
    • The ability to review technical information and turn it into a coordinated construction solution
    • Experience working through design development, procurement, installation and commissioning
    • Knowledge of LV distribution, containment, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, controls and associated building systems
    • Confidence working with clients, consultants, subcontractors and site-delivery teams
    • A practical understanding of programme, procurement, commercial risk and buildability
    • The ability to identify problems early and take ownership of their resolution
    • An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering or building services

Experience of major commercial, residential, education, healthcare, justice, industrial or similarly complex developments would all be relevant.

You do not need to have worked in every sector or to match every technical point listed. The quality and scale of your project experience, your engineering judgement and the level of responsibility you have held will matter more.

    WHY CONSIDER IT?

This opportunity should appeal to an engineer who wants to work among technically capable people and retain a meaningful influence over how projects are designed and built.

    The business offers:

    • A strong and secured Northwest project pipeline
    • Complex projects with genuine engineering content
    • Access to in-house design, digital-engineering and offsite-manufacturing expertise
    • Experienced technical and operational leadership
    • The opportunity to influence projects from pre-construction through to completion
    • A culture that recognises and develops good engineers
    • A clear route into senior engineering, project management or wider operational leadership
    • An excellent salary and benefits package, including car or allowance, bonus, private healthcare and pension

This is a permanent position. Projects will principally be located across Manchester and the wider Northwest.
