How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Drylining

It can be difficult to get noticed early in your career as a Quantity Surveyor. Often, your manager is tied up dealing with day-to-day pressures, chasing payments and firefighting issues, leaving little time to properly support or develop those coming through beneath them.

But what if you had the opportunity to work closely with an experienced Commercial Director, learning through both observation and genuine mentorship?

And what if that opportunity was within a smaller, growing business, where your contribution is visible, your voice is heard, and you are given real exposure to projects from an early stage?

We are currently working with a drylining subcontractor that has been established for five years. They are set to turn over £12 million this year and already have £15 million secured for next year. Their growth has been carefully managed, and they are now at a point where they are consciously choosing not to overextend, focusing instead on sustainable development and maintaining a strong company culture.

They are now looking to bring in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with a minimum of three years’ experience. In this role, you will work closely with the Commercial Director, who is also a fifty percent shareholder in the business. This is not a distant leadership figure, but someone who is hands-on, highly experienced in drylining and commercial management, and genuinely invested in developing the next generation.

This is an opportunity to properly learn your trade within a supportive environment, while still being given the autonomy and responsibility that is often hard to come by at this stage in your career. You will gain valuable exposure across projects, build confidence in your decision-making, and develop a well-rounded commercial skill set.

The role also offers a level of flexibility that is not always available so early in a Quantity Surveying career, including the ability to work from home one or two days per week, depending on project demands.

You will need to have a solid understanding of drylining and at least three years of experience in quantity surveying, but just as important is the right attitude and a desire to learn and progress.
